Not sure if this is what you meant but this years winners of the EL get a CL spot next season. PS...I read it that you was saying the winners of this qualifying tie gets a CL spot; aka taking the piss
There are only 3 countries allowed 4 slots now. Germany took one from Italy so it's high time a few bucked up their ideas including those in Europa and actually try win things. Though somehow I reckon the rule will just be changed to give slot back to Italy as they'll bribe their way to it
There could be four countries with four teams next season. Or there could be a country with five teams. #europaleaguewinnersgetclspot
Arsenal should get through comfortably. As we know from past experience Besiktas do not travel well !
Yup. You need a manager who has an ounce of tactical sense to win in Europe. Its all well and good in the Premier League if you are better than 80% of your opponents, but in Europe when there is a good chance your opponents will be as good if not better, you need to be able to outfox them and Wenger is totally inept at that.
well if you mean able to pick a defensive side then sure arsenal are pants while chelsea are well set up! the thing is as no 1 seeds due to coefficient wneger doesn't need to worry about sides being better until the first knockout round. the no 2 seeds can top them but the other two sides usually are total muck.... LFC's problem is the top 2 can be very good so as third seeds they have to perform in every game and bascially beat the 4th place side twice and take the second place side apart at anfield then draw.... The second seed pot has a lot of variety that can create issues. I'd bet if wenger was presented with a thrid seed status he'd struggle.
I'm looking forward to our BR totally outfoxing our opponents with the brilliant tactic of: Goals conceded < Goals scored
Yup, which is why Arsenal usually get dumped out as soon as they meet another top seed in the knockouts. There is more to tactics than just a defensive side Liverpool will have a tough time as you will be third seeds you are likely to get a couple of very good teams in your group draw. But hey, at least you are back in the competition.
Seeding pot 1 Real Madrid Barcelona Bayern Munich Chelsea Benfica Atlético Madrid Seeding pot 1 or 2 (TBD) (iguess depends on who comes out if play offs) Schalke 04 Borussia Dortmund Seeding pot 2 Juventus Paris Saint-Germain Shakhtar Donetsk Basel Manchester City Seeding pot 2 or 3 (TBD) Olympiacos CSKA Moscow Ajax Seeding pot 3 Liverpool Sporting CP Galatasaray Seeding pot 3 or 4 (TBD) Anderlecht Roma Seeding pot 4 Monaco SO there are a lot of teams needing completion in this in the next week. the draw is the 28th which is obviously 8 days time and we'll know more by friday. but already the nightmare draw is obvious. Any of real madrid, barca and bayern as seed 1. Juve or PSG as seed 2. Someone like monaco or roma as seed 4. LFC might get shalke, shaktar, anderlect for example... or better again a useless celtic (though they won't be 4th seeds i think)
Wouldn't mind a big team like Bayern or Barca from pot 1 then some average from pot 2 and 4. Means get decent game but a realistic chance of getting through.
First European game I ever went to was LFC v Stromsgodset, at Anfield as I was only just over 14. We won 11 - 0 and I thought I'll have to make sure I go to all the European home games if it is this much fun. Think we beat them 1 -0 in the away return leg. The other European game that stands out from those days was the St Etienne game. The first time I saw daft coloured wigs at a match as all the away fans had bright green afro type wigs on. Hell of a game as well.
I don't really mind a bad draw, bring it on. The ones I'd really want to avoid are the long trips to Shaktar or Moscow.
