Sources are apparently saying that Brian Lenihan, that Irish defender we were linked with a couple of weeks back will be ours by the end of the week.
A young defence of Lenihan, Robertson and Maguire if pretty exciting. Everyone seems to be calling Lenihan the next Coleman, but I can't see him getting much of a look in in the senior side for a while yet with Elmo and Rosey in those spots.
At less than 100k he could be one hell of a bargain. If he's one tenth as good as Coleman he will be a great addition for the future.
I wonder how much Meyler's influence has helped get him to us, who still seems very close with his club?
I think it's great, and reassuring, that the club are finally making the time and money investment in this young but high potential talent. Not all of the investments will come off of course, but some of them will. We seem to be building quite a collection of up and coming talent, which should bode well for the future whether we stay PL or whether the unthinkable happens and we were relegated. Credit to SB and his team, and to the Allams. I haven't seen, or can't remember, such forward thinking and action in all my 40odd years of supporting City.
It depends on how the '£130k offer' was made. Ours might be £100k now, and the Palace bid may have been £130k after so many appearances and subject to other restrictions. I keep reminding people not to believe all you read in newspapers because they know very little and what they don't know they make up.
Looks like he is Brighton-bound http://m.independent.ie/sport/soccer/league-of-ireland/corks-fantastic-lenihan-can-be-another-coleman-30521419.html
Not often that you see the word 'juncture' used in sports journalism. At this juncture Brucy better put in a better offer if he wants his man.
Or he is gay, or he is more interested in the money then Premier League status (and they've offered more).
Or he is more interested in playing football (which he probably thinks he has more chance of doing at Brighton).
In which case he could stay where he is and get as much game time as he wants. If he has ambition, and belief in his own ability, he should aim as high as he can. Whether that be us or another Premier League team.
Yes but you have to be realistic at some point. If he wants to be playing football in England now, he should probably go to Brighton. He knows if he comes here he won't be replacing any of our defenders this season unless he gets loaned out, if we really want him then our Irish contingent should have a word.
Interesting: Bid accepted for Lenihan with media "assumption" that it is Brighton - but Cork City simply state a club, not a specific club. http://www.thescore.ie/brian-lenihan-brighton-1630927-Aug2014/
Is this a done deal? I thought a source up in Scotland said "he'll play the next 2 games and then he'll complete a successful transfer to Hull City"... meaning its all agreed? From what ive read, man-u, everton, arsenal & spurs have all watched him... hope he signs for us!
Are we the second bidder? https://twitter.com/CorkCityFC?original_referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.corkcityfc.ie%2Fhome%2F2014%2F08%2F22%2Fsecond-offer-received-for-brian-lenihan%2F&profile_id=23133693&tw_i=502931119226892288&tw_p=embeddedtimeline&tw_w=302150881703501825
