Interesting, I think its more like number of heart beats, thing is by doing physical exercise and elevating heart beat you bring down the RHR which over the period of a year etc. means less beats. Also improving the efficiency of cardio system means less beats needed to get a given volume of oxygen absorbed so exercise is GOOD....

Norway I have seen a variation of your theory. Everything lives to the same age - in heartbeats. Thats why an elephant with a slow rate lives a lot longer than a mouse with a fast rate. Excluding disease and being hunted it does make sense as does the breaths with the requirement for oxygen.

Very little W_Y. We are reliant on a wholly inacurate rumour site for information which has proved amusing. Apart from that very little.

And I can't spell engrossed either.

I've heard that theory about the heartbeats a few times, hence tortoises live so long apparently.

So if you had 2 hearts you would live twice as long.....???

What happens if you, at 60, get the heart of a 20 year old in a transplant??????

What if the transplanted heart is that of a tortoise.

See??!! Can of worms, can of worms.

And whats more important isn't the quantity of life its the quality. Some people cram more positive experience into 25 years than others do into 100. I look at my father whos 75 and think how sad, he'll probably "live" another 20 years but what will he experience in that time when heart is beating and brain is controlling, unfortunately not a lot. I'll be more than happy with another 15 years on this planet if I can continue to enjoy Watford FC, fast cars, great wife and pleasure in my childrens development and hopefully be a positive contributor to a few other peoples lives. As soon as the receiving exceeds the giving in terms of care I don't wanna be here any more.

Evening All, I had intended to pop in a little earlier, but we had a bit of boom boom overhead with a light show, so thought it better to shut things down. I am not too sure how my insurers would react to me claiming for a second new computer. I did quite well out of it as I was provided with a vastly superior model, the only trouble being that it has a French keyboard.

Still that seems to have passed by now and I did hear something on the tennis coverage that made me wonder if any of the Murray dislikers had changed a little now that he is going to play for GB in the Davies Cup.

Today I was out on one of Mme's bricolage trips when there was a strange sound from under the bonnet of the car. A light came on ordering me to stop, with a second light showing a battery. As I was going down the autoroute the stopping had to wait until a service area. Getting out the manual it told me in French that I had blown a fuse.

Searching around I discover that I need a full blown tool kit to get at the fuses, something I do not carry. I decided to abandon the trip and go back to my garage, but notice that the aircon is no longer working. Seeing as we arrive back after midday there is no point in going to the garage as they will be at lunch.

I set off for the garage after some light refreshment, then another light comes on to say that my airbags are not working. A few miles later another light comes on, and the symbol means nothing until I try to slow right down and turn into the garage. Then I discover the power steering has gone.

I explain the sequence of events to the mechanic who is very tolerant of my use of his language. Lifting up the bonnet he goes delving into the depths, an area that you cannot see because of all the covers and comes back with the remark that it is the usual problem, the belt on the alternator has died.

In days gone by with straight forward engines, without covers so you can see the problem, I would have known what to do. However the world has moved on and to have so many faults because a drive belt has gone seems to be just a maens of stopping you carry out a simple repair.
