There is a growing civil unrest there at the moment and the Foreign Office are advising people not to travel.

I was there about 10 years ago and it is a lovely country and the local Beer that I drank called Gurresten was lovely, not unlike the proper Czech beers. Quite expensive though, roughly £3 and that was 10 years ago.

Ma mate went for a staggie, he says the Pros are excellent and you can go shoot various firearms for much cheapness. It's like Hostel3 kinda. <diva>

Was there last Sept. The whole place is a ****in combat zone, mate. Avoid like the plague. Rip-off central. <grr>

As soon as they hear you speak English, they crank the prices up BIG style.

Get yerself to Coatbridge. I'll show you roond the place. Great night out there and piss-easy to score some skag <ok>

just checked on FO website and no mention of the unrest? I suppose it will be a step up at the moment compared to, say Greece... the place is in ruins! (see what I did there....)

Was there in 2009 and loved it. Great beer called Svyturys and pretty cheap so long as you avoid the tourist al fresco bars.

The women are fooking gorgeous as well, in Vilnius anyway, seems like all the good looking women in the country flock to the capital, dressed in their best hoping to get noticed. Alot of places outside the capital are a bit dodgy and run down though so I'd stick to Vilnius if you go.

Like someone above said though be careful of the usual crims!

I went to Vilnius in 2006 and had a ****ing riot. Women are extremely fit and if you want to pick up anything else, the mafia sticks out like a sore thumb, so it's a piece of piss.

Ignore the expensive beer quotes - It's all ****ing cheap <ok>

Lived and worked in Lithuania, it's a nice place with really nice people. The capital Villnius has many interesting places to visit, including the television tower (in January1991, 14 unarmed civilians lost their lives and 700 were injured opposing the Soviet military seizure of the tower). The beer isn't that great, when I lived there it was imported from Estonia and was vile. I'm sure it has a better supply now. The Lithuanian for milk is "pienas" pronounced penis, so you can have lot's of fun with that in the cafes. The average weekly salary in Lithuania is about the same as a family meal at McDonalds, so the local people tend to avoid the bars and cafes, unless they're of the street worker brigade (many of them in Villnius). The hotels are of a decent standard, the best being Nerigna Hotel (not far from the Cathedral and Museum of Genocide), but my advice is to watch the ladies of the night, they are everywhere in the 3 star to 4 star hotels and they have heavy handed bodyguards or family members, even if you just say "labas" (hello). Lithuanian airlines are okay, perhaps a little dated, but they are friendly enough and the airport is of a good standard. Most Lithuanian's enjoy basketball and shooting, so you won't get a lot of chat about football or cricket etc. The standard of English is from MTV, so sounds American Television presenter like. Enjoy the country, it's different and well worth a visit.
