Exactly mate, this really is the best time be playing us, I think Poch is still working out his best XI as pre-season is too hard to judge on (plus our WC stars who recently returned) and the players are still learning the trade so to speak.

The team you've listed is definitely going to cause us problems. I'm hoping we can avoid giving away corners as we all know how dangerous Caulker is in the air and we'll need Kaboul to be on top form (which he hasn't been for a while), as he's our only fit CB with genuine pace who'd be best at trying to mark Remy and he's also a beast in the air to contend with Caulker from set plays. I'm hoping we can exploit the newly formed back 3, those who you've mentioned are a work in progress and so hopefully our front 4 can cause some problems and confusion amongst them to allow us through on goal.

I'd like to see a team of:

    Hugo,
    Dier, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Davies
    Capoue, Holtby
    Lamela, Eriksen, Townsend
    Ade

Harsh on Bentaleb as he had a fine game against West Ham and barely put a foot wrong but I just feel two deep lying midfielders aren't needed at home and Capoue is the more superior of the two.

Subs: Sod choosing the subs, I don't envy Poch on this, we have a massive squad where two or three good players will miss out fully, it's hard to say who should and who shouldn't. Though I'm sure Boss and Robspur could name one or two they'd happily see miss out :p.

It's going to be a tight affair and I'm buzzing to get down the Lane for our first home league game, I'd like to think we can win this with a 2-0/ 2-1 score line, though I won't be putting any bets on just yet.

For me personally I wouldn't really like it BY, purely due to the fact that Walker is a poor crosser and dribbler of the ball. He's got immense pace who'll cause anyone problems but whenever he's in the final third of the pitch, he rarely delivers the perfect cross nor does he have the natural ability to beat a man.

Also, if Dier continues his performances from the Schalke & West Ham games and Vertonghen gets back to his best, I think we can save the £20m on Musacchio. We still have Kaboul, Chiriches and Dawson and therefore I don't think another £20m on top of that - unless two go out the door - is worth while (has anyone actually seen Musacchio play out of interest?).
The same applies for Schneiderlin, the more and more I see of Capoue (and Bentaleb to be fair) the more I feel Schneiderlin is most definitely not needed (though I've also mentioned that I'd like for Poch to be backed, so if he truly wants MS then so be it).
If we're looking for one big money signing this window, I'd say it needs to be in the striking department, Soldado being left on the bench against West Ham signals to me Poch may not be a fan as he featured enough in pre-season so it's not as if he's not match fit. Kane also looked great (again) when he came on and I think he can really blossom into a fine player.

The U21s are playing the Spammers in their opener tonight. It's currently half-time. It's 1-0... <whistle>
Fredericks, Carroll and Ceballos all feature, so they're probably not off to Cyprus on Thursday.

Some of the above + Veljkovic may well be (is Pochettino present at this game) ??

No idea if Pochettino's there, RDBD. Probably should be, though.

12 months ago Townsend played an U21 game on a monday. AVB watched at least the 1st half.
Next thing he is in the starting XI against Tbilisi 3 days later.

Finished 2-1 to us. Akindayini and Ceballos with the goals.
I guess that makes this a double, by their standards. They'd be printing up t-shirts in the morning.

A slightly more detailed version of our U21s knocking off the Spammers: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/u21-west-ham-preview-180814/

Voss; Fredericks, Ball, Veljkovic (C), McQueen; Carroll, Winks; Sonupe (Oduwa, 46), Onomah (Lesniak, 69), Ceballos (Miller, 75); Akindayini
    Unused subs: Glover (GK), Coulibaly
Goals: Akindayini (Onomah assist), Ceballos (Veljkovic assist)

I'm starting to get the feeling that Coulibaly will soon be spoken of in the same breath as Jonathan Blondel, Dorian Dervitte, Thomas Pekhart, Rodrigo Defendi, Emil Hallfredsson or Yuri Berchiche - players that arrived at Spurs, but nobody seemed to notice.

No. He's definitely a West Ham fan, too. He said so himself. You could tell by the way that he was dressed though, frankly.

Definitely a West Ham fan. My Cousin spotted him the moment he went on the pitch (which was literally right at the other end of the stadium), was pretty hilarious seeing the overweight stewards chase him down, once he finally got caught down our end, you could visibly see one steward was praising the gods he didn't have to run another inch <laugh>

The best action I ever saw in a baseball game may have been the first game I ever saw. A skinny teenager burst from the stands on the right onto the field. A fat cop took off in pursuit, and the crowd started cheering the kid, as he steadily put distance between himself and the fat cop. The kid ran up to the Pirates center fielder, Matty Alou, one of the first players in the Major Leagues from the Dominican Republic. The kid stuck out his hand. Alou thought for a second, then shook his hand warmly.

The kid started running again, the cop not having caught up yet. He climbed the fence in center field and disappeared into the streets behind it. The crowd went wild.

Going back to the U21s (didn't we have a thread for them once upon a time?) for a moment, here are the highlights from the game.

    http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs-tv/highlights/

Great ball from Onomah for the first and equally as good a touch and finish from Ceballos for the first IMO.

Cannot remember what that article is called. Would be nice to resurrect it and rename it to "Academy watch" etc.

Good to see the club are getting the highlights up quite quickly too.

Feel free to start a new one for the youth sides this season <ok>

Liked that finish from Akindayini the 'keeper was right on top of him and he even started celebrating before it crossed the line :D

Wouldn't surprise me if Akindayini gets a loan move soon. He was top scorer last season if I remember rightly and looks as though he's started where he left off, very nice finish.

Onomah we all know about, this kid will surely either get a first team chance soon or a loan to a good Championship side. Massively high hopes for him. Future England star in my opinion.
