The Aussie PM comment was amusingly ironic. Not as if they are not averse to rattling the Republican question cage when domestic politics are going pear-shaped. Coming soon : Argentina threatens to declare war on Scotland if they become independent, as the word "Falkland" has Scottish origins.
My main hope is that people realise how big this referendum is. I also hope that voters don't just vote yes because they see it as a up yours to England and no because they don't like Salmond.
There should be a voting system where every vote is only accepted with a recorded video message of why they are voting yes or no. Its likely most of the no voters would turn up in tartan, eating a scotch egg, proudly showing off their scotch tape and while they struggle to say any valid reasons, end up shouting "up yours England, Freedom">

It's hardly propaganda, Spurf. He's very much the public face of the campaign, regardless of whether he's actually running it or not. He's putting himself out there and he's conducting the debates. Even a Google image search for Yes Scotland brings up his ugly mug more often than anyone else's.
It seems that people living in Scotland can't lose, whichever way the vote goes, with politicians in Westminster promising them the earth if they vote no and the SNP promising them a new golden age if they vote yes! For me, the word politician means lying, cheating, thieving confidence trickster so I doubt that it will make much difference which way they vote, they will still be screwed by those they vote into government. We live at present in something called The United Kingdom, i.e. a union of Nations. Why is it that only one (relatively) small part of this Kingdom is being allowed to vote on whether or not to dissolve the union? Where's my say? Personally I'd vote yes, if only so that the BBC wouldn't have to report on their useless third rate football teams!
Bullshit PNP he has to be out there is it the media and Westminster who have deliberately targetted Salmond and demonised him. He can't refuse to appear on TV or answer questions he is the leader of the SNP who have after all made this referrendum possible. BUT the YES campaign is quite different and seperate, it includes people from ALL parties and none ie Labour, Tory, Liberal, Green, Socialist, SNP, plus Independendents. I'm sorry but unless you are in Scotland or spend time on the net looking at what is happening behind the MSM and Westminster propoganda you will not have a true picture.
As long as England elects Tories or New Labour which are after all are much the same, they will not get the democracy Scotland is voting for in this referrendum. Scotland had an alternative party and they voted for them.
He was one of the first two people to sign up for it at the Yes campaign launch, Spurf. He's been criticised by his own allies for making it all about the SNP and himself. Blaming the opposition simply doesn't wash under those circumstances.
I can't disagree with a lot of what you say. Personally, I couldn't be arsed to vote for any of the lying, cheating scumbags. One day they will hold an election and nobody will bother to vote. Maybe then, politicians will finally get the message. Personally, if I were Scottish, I would be asking myself "why should I believe what Salmond tells me anymore than what any other politician tells me?" The simple truth is that there is electioneering and misinformation on both sides. It therefore becomes increasingly difficult for the ordinary Scottish voter to know who to believe.
I must say this is a very insightful thread and very enjoyable. Spurf you should be part of the YES campaign yourself. I think if I was Scottish you may convince me to vote for independence! No one can deny your passion for the cause!
"The problem with democracy is that no matter who you vote for you always get politicians." You get career politicians nowadays. Perhaps at the parliamentary level, the candidate reqt should be that you've had a proper tax-paying day job for at least 5 yrs before you can stand.
