i agree with you in principle, but then the player can turn round and say fair enough i wont join then, what you are saying is really a way of rewarding players who are already here, not an incentive to join a club as that is usually down to wages. if he is good enough to enable us to maintain top 4, it could be seen as wages well spent.
I believe getting a solid deputy to Sturridge could be enough for top 4 to. Its just a case of whats easier to get and best value for money. Performance based bonuses sound like the right idea.
We should always aim to improve. Why limit ourselves to just a back-up player? I know its easier said than done but we should always look to improve, leave standing still to Everton!
