I wish them well on it. Pelle is a big donkey too, gave skertl a lot of trouble which nobody else did last year. It'll be interesting to see how they develop. I hope they do well.
Not just trying to be argumentative - honest! - and obviously have no info upon which to base this opinion but my feeling is that was as good as it going to get for Saints. On the same basis I hope that we didn't use up all of our luck for this season in the first match. All in all I'm glad that it's over and we can now start t make changes in formations and personnel. I really don't understand the comments about Lucas. In the first half he was a superb steadying presence alongside Gerrard. We were far more measured and secure until we tried to push forward at the start of the 2nd half. Sure Lucas is never going to give you an extra pair of attacking legs. So if you want to open the game then bring on other players but don't slate him like some have done. Over all we will be better for that match. There's lots of room for improvement and that's good. However, we certainly showed that there is more than a little life left after Suarez. The patterns will change but the quality was there.
Pretty happy overall. The defence looked a lot more solid. Lacked some creativity, but I feel sure that will come as the new players begin to be introduced.
The chap from Saints isn't in the team? Ward-Prouse, he was superb yesterday... They, BBC, give him one job and he still can't get it right!
Save the wages and just replace him with the following algorithm: 1. Select goal scorers and players with most number of shots to fill midfield and attack (position not important) 2. Select players with the most number of blocks to fill defence 3. Select keeper who saved a penalty or most number of saves £100k a year saved by about 10 lines of programming
Reading back through a match thread is f**ing hilarious Some of you lot make me look like Mr Happy. Hardly a memorable performance but how often do we ever start brilliantly? Plenty still needs addressing but nothing we didn't already know about. Error prone keeper and defence, a midfield that at times doesn't break up play well enough and a striker who needs to get in the box more often. On the other hand a lot of positives too. Moreno/Enricky to come in, Lovren and Skrtel look like they could blend well, a young right back who looks decent enough as cover (for Flannel not Johnson), Gerrard still knows how to ping a fifty yard pass to feet, Henderson will get better than yesterday, Sterling gets more and more confident by game, he and Studge have opened their accounts for the season already, having Lambert coming off the bench is better than Aspaz and we have still to see what Markovich can do. A game to be forgotten but 3 points on the board. Massive improvement needed for next Monday but that's hardly unexpected after 1 game is it?
For some reason, it doesn't say you edited but you clearly did. And no, it clearly wasn't edited before my post
It was edited before you posted as your post wasn't there after my edit otherwise I wouldn't have said it...had to be you though eh Think I might nickname him "Nacho" Moreno from now on Anyway back on topic.......I know it's too early to judge and a run of a few clean sheets would boost defensive confidence etc but I get the feeling this season could be as mad and scary as last year
Usually, the edit bit comes up so I can see what you've changed anyway and could do it from that if I wanted but its not there this time. I've not watched the game yet, only seen the MOTD2 highlights so can't comment too much on the game. Planning on watching it when I get home as I recorded it at midnight on LFC channel.
Somehow I don't think this season is going to be as mad and scary as last. Until the 2nd half where we fell between 2 stools and lost our shape, we were so organised it was almost boring. Like you said, what do you expect from the 1st game
We were pretty similar to that on many occasions last season Dave. I felt we lost our shape as soon as Saints sussed out our midfields sluggishness. I didn't feel it was us being so organised more that Saints didn't commit too many forward until they conceded. After the goal a lot of their pressure was coming from forcing mistakes out of our lot all too easily (but they did play very well in fairness). No real complaints mate, I understand it has ever been thus.....first couple of months it's all about the points. As someone said before if we're still playing that way by the end of October I'll be more concerned. As of now I'm grateful that we are playing like a team who's used to winning more than they lose (or draw) which is an underestimated mindset to have at a club. Scrappy 2 yard winners late in a game can give as much confidence to a team in the long run as the demolitions can. Issues to resolve but exactly the same issues that existed at 1.29pm yesterday that we already knew about.
Glad to see some positivity in the last few posts. I was beginning to think that the only reason to watch football was to find fault.
So they pick Gardener who did have a good game but was defeated 2-0 over Ramsey, Henderson and Cattermole?
