    A couple of suggestions...

For anyone going Wednesday, there are 3 ribs restaurants in Ghent called Amadeus. The ribs are fantastic and if you can keep eating them they'll keep bringing them. For any vegetarians in your party, the ribs come with a jacket potato. They close at 11 so we'll not get back in time after the match.

Belgian beer is everywhere but there's another local thing, Genever. If you are staying in the centre, after the match check out the Genever bar, ask any local and they'll know. I think Genever is best described as flavoured moonshine, lots of flavours. Beware of the chilli genever and be aware that there is a river or canal next to the bar when you leave.

I stayed precisely there on a stag-do last year! It's a great location, nice pizza place directly opposite. There's an Irish bar (isn't there always?) not too far away that were very accomodating, they let us watch City on the telly (cant recall which televised game) and they had a barmaid who was ****ing dynamite.

Each to their own,but I can't see the point when in Ghent which has loads of bars, far more for a similar population than Hull, serving better beer and genever for a chaser, of going in an Irish bar. Give me the local bars with table service and Belgian beer. Always made me wonder at people going in the British Bulldog in Amsterdam, scrambling at the bar in the hope you could get served when two doors away there was a Dutch bar with table service and better beer and which was cheaper as well.

    Agreed, mind boggling.

    Same with cuisine.

I totally agree as well. We went in loads of local bars and nightclubs and mixed with the locals. We went in the Irish bar cos it was the only one we could find who were prepared to show City - a Championship club - on tv.

You do realise I'm the one criticised more than any on here for being anti English and pro Italian?
