Wanyama was superb. JWP wasn't too far behind. Morgan and Fonte were solid. Tadic looked promising. I'd like to think that Pelle's Saints career can only get better from here. Best to just move on from today.
Thought Clyne was very good apart from losing Sterling for the 1st goal. Looked a threat going forward and Sterling didn't really get much change out of him for the ret of the game. Your midfield pretty much dominated the game against us, especially in the 2nd half (although not had when Lucas is playing ). None of them look like they could chip in with close to 10 goals this season though which could be an issue. Had that chance for Davies fallen to Lallana for example you'd think it would have been put away and game won. Tadic looks an exciting player though, could be a bargain at £8m
Nah mate. Lallana would have been well capable of scuffing that. Don't look to him for a shed load of goals.
Please, Davis, not Davies. We had a Ron Davies who was very special to us [two, in fact]. Steven Davis is a perfectly good finisher when he wants to be. His touch and technique is generally excellent, so on another occasion he could have buried the chance. I'm sure he's kicking himself because he knows it too. You will find that amongst Lallana's brilliance, he can screw up some straight forward things too. He's perfectly capable of hitting a chance straight at a keeper when it would be easier to score, or all the other usual things that ordinary players do rather than put the ball in the back of the net. It's why he isn't as prolific at scoring as he might be otherwise. What he can be is utterly, utterly brilliant, in the way that the Rooneys and Sterlings of this football world can only dream of doing. He's Le Tissier like, if not quite as good as the original, but you still have one heck of a player, and believe me, I've praised him highly by even comparing him to Le God. Which Lallana shows up, on any particular match day, is anyone's guess.
fair enough, but my point was more that goals from midfield can be vital and I can't see that many coming from yours (obviously could very well be proven wrong). Still have cash to spend though so could be that's an area that'll be improved for you. Thought he was more of a striker? Thought Pelle also looked decent, was a handful for the both CB's today. Wait and see if he can add goals to his game in this league but can see him causes a lot of defences trouble this year I know you wont want to hear it but Lovren has looked very good for us, shame about the circumstances he joined/left you. Probably our best bit of business.
The point is that obviously he'd got that shirt last season, and adjusted it in a vaguely humorous way.
Well Jay largely plays on the left for us. You could call him a forward but he's not our main man up top. Lacking goals from central midfield is an issue though, I agree.
Sorry, Davis. My bad Fair enough, I wasn't trying to say Lallana would have scored and rub it in (only suggested Lallana as obviously he scored a few from midfield for you guys last year). I hope he can live up to the standards your saying he can reach though Just think you guys could do with a Sigurdsson type player. A midfielder who is going to get 5-10 league goals, especially as you don't have a prolific striker at the moment, but looks like you can play off Pelle and is the type of striker you can play up to and brings other midfield runners into play.
Quick people, go and look at Jan Kluitenberg's favourites before it's gone... https://twitter.com/jankluit/favorites
He is. Generally he either leads the line or is the support striker. If he comes back fit, strong and confident that his knee is OK [ie, he trusts it not to fold under him again] he'll be into double figures no problem at all. May even trouble the 20s. It depends on his opportunities and confidence.
Davis's miss was bad too. Jamesy should shoot next time - if he wants to play there he will have to start learning what a goal is.
