Do remind me of liverpools defensive record last season. Helped out in many many ways by steven gerrard, defensive midfielder...
And Stevieme is a year older this time UIR. Legs getting tired, no longer a box to box midfielder. But still the expert on slips and ill directed headers
Gerrard always a better player but if we are talking defemsive midfielder, a position carrick has played in whilst being apart of one of the most successful sides in history v gerrard, who fell on his arse and finished second... Anyone who thinks gerrard is a better dm than carrick is an idiot. I would be surprised if any liverpool fans believed it. Neither are very good at all these days though.
name one person who you have in DM who is better than Gerrard and dont say Carrick because thats just daft
Carrick, end of argument. He managed to keep his cool under pressure, which is why his medal tally is superior.
Better than gerrard as a dm? Herrera (on Bilboa form) Jones (give you an idea of how **** gerrard is) A huge gap (you get what i am saying?) Oh and carrick. Because only an idiot would think otherwise. Theres a reason for this. Gerrard simply doesnt have the discipline or intelligence to play the role. Hes a gung ho, life on the edge kind of player. Hes now slow and basically useless so liverpool shove him deep as hes to slow to do what he did years ago. Liverpool are hoping he does a scholes. He hasnt though. Hes just rubbish in that role now.
Stevieme in the same role as Scholes? Have we ever heard ZZ, Xavi etc etc say that Gerrard was difficult tp play against, or they wish could have played alongside him?
And how long ago did Zidane talk about Scholes Also... "Have we ever heard ZZ" your own word was "ever"
I don't. He is very good at collecting and distributing the ball but defensively he is very suspect. He's not got the engine or legs to get about like he used to and he's never been the most tactic minded of players either so is often slow to read the game. He can tackle when he gets there though. PS...I didn't read back on this thread so I don't know how the Gerrard-Scholes comparison came about. Both were great in their prime playing more attacking but I don't think either particularly suit the more withdrawn defensive role. They both have attributes that benefit being further back (mainly passing) but both have negatives too.
Carrick is a Better traditional DM than Gerrard, but in the modern game you also need a good deep midfield playmaker at which Gerrard is far better. This is why liverpool play both Gerrard and lucas as Lucas is better at the defensive duties whilst Gerrard is great at creating play from deep. Utd are missing this type of player desperately as Mata is a number 10, if you take him out of the game all thats left for united is to play endless crosses into the box. With Liverpool we have Gerrard and Henderson and Coutinho that can produce those killer balls so you aren't able to stifle the team as a whole very easily. So to recap Carrick is probably better than lucas! but you desperately need a Gerrard, not sure Herrera will cut it.
You've pretty much proved his point. That was from 2009 where Gerrard was played as a second striker behind Torres, with Lucas and Alonso keeping him out of the CM role. Scholes and Carrick are both better CMs and DMs than Gerrard - Gerrard was always at his best when kept out of CM (like in 2006 and 2009) so he could do maximum damage with minimum defensive responsibilities.
When they've both retired Gerrard and Carrick should get together and whip their medals out on a table. Gerrard can comfort himself by insisting he was world class and a legend. A bit like Blobby Fowler.
