Coutinho is a "weather vane" player. He's the kind of player who never really does well if the team isn't doing well. The better we play he plays exponentially better. He rarely does well unless we are dominating. So far season looks like how we started last year. Decent, if not spectacular first half and then a poor 2nd half. Also a more cautious style like we were start of last season. Boys don't have the stamina yet to do Rodgers all out attack with non stop running. Decent start to the season despite Soton being good and putting up a fight.
Did anyone really think it was going to be easy Let's be honest, it wan't great but Arsenal were poor at home to Palace, United lost, Everton drew and Spurs scrapped a win as well. City & Chelsea, over to you now. As I said at HT, after a WC year with so many players away and some new one to bed in, it was always going to take 2 or 3 games before we get anywhere near our best. Most important thing was getting the 3 points today and then we go again at City!
Luck. Only one team deserved to win that and it wasn't us. Still 3 points which are badly needed going into the next games.
City lost on opening day last year. I can remember Arsenal winning 6-0 against Everton on opening day and being no where near the league.
Didn't think any of our players were stand out good or bad. Even Johnson wasn't bad. Not good but not bad.
Losing on the opening day is a source of entertainment. Sides who lose on the opening day fix their problems quivker than those who start well.
A fantasic win. Show's we have the mentality to win these type of games. Quite the opposite of Man Utd that lack that mentality. Great win - Lovren is a ****ing beast. Mankini is a very good RB. Migs is a top class shot stopper. Sterling is just a worldie in the making. Sturridge is clinical. Hendo is improving everytime I see him (could easily become our next 'Gerrard' - absolute sublime pass for Sterling) I didn't realise Lovren had the range of passing he has - sprayed some lovely balls around. Credit to Southampton - looks like they've bagged an excellent signing in Tedic (sp?). A good 3 points on the board, without playing well, and missing a few players. JOB DONE
If you turn things round and manage to get top 8 this year we might buy all your best players next summer. Then you can look forwards to seeing them in Europe
You clearly no nothing then. Football isn't as easy as that. Soton have replaced most of those players sold and are still are solid team with a good manager. We have alot of players to bed in and have to over come losing a big big player. Sure Arsenal fans thought they'd have an easy game with Palace losing their manager yesterday, took them till the 93min to win.
Well I,think Johnson plumbed to new depths in that second half. That was as bad as I've ever seen him play...and that's bloody saying something. Gerrard wasn't far behind, totally anonymous second half and constantly out of position letting saints run through. On plus side thought manquilla was excellent and great goal saving tackle. Lovren was good too, seems a calm player. Sterling looked great and Henderson looked like he always does. And brilliant save by Ming
Allen did well enough. 2 points saved by Ming. Players looked tired towards the end, pre season cobwebs and the added pressure of being expected to win. Great three points, especially given a certain result yesterday
It sounds like playing Gerrard and Lucas was the problem. I also disliked it when they both play together. No pace or attacking spark. Allen should have started.
