Would love to have seen Steve Bruce's face when the fax came through offering £12m for Shane Long.

This move could turn out to be a very bad one for long and very costly for southampton.

Ok, he's only 20 minutes into his career there, and squad numbers mean little these days, but he's been given a wingers number and came on the left wing before being moved onto the right wing after being ineffective.

I can't imagine they'd have spent all that cash on him if they were planning on using him out wide, if they are, well... It'll just be a catastrophic waste of money.

And he missed an open goal from 6 yards out <laugh>

Probably more importantly from a Soton fans point of view, he's been given the number previously held by Lambert and, going back, Le Tissier. He'll have to play incredibly well to live up to what they did there.

That non finish shows exactly why SB said yes to the offer...yeah he runs the channels but Brady can do that! Elmo & now Robertson will also keep full backs occupied. We need a ****ing finisher!!

There was a defender in front of him that he had to head past so I wouldn't say it was as simple as you say. Southampton certainly look a very good team still, and it will be interesting to see if Long does well eventually with them.
