Imagine them going straight down again......it wouldn't be the first time, Stockport County managed it and so have other ex league teams
Have some sympathy lads/lasses. There but for the grace of SC & SL go us. If we had kept SOD we'd now be propping up League Two. So I might be a lonely voice but I feel for all their fans.
Mind the gap. I like your footnote or whatever it is called in IT circles. But where is the TV in front of the armchair?
You obviously don't mix with any of them socially then.! I know loads of Sags and not ONE would have any sympathy at all if the boot were on the other foot and will happily admit it. Its not our mess, they made it for themselves.. it's our duty to laugh long and heartily.
At my age and living in Frome, most of my social contacts are farmers / old ladies when I am dog walking or pathetic morons wearing Premiership or Bath Rugby shirts. But as a Bristolian, I have some sympathy for their fans.
I agree with cidered abroad Living in Dorchester I have contact with just one Rovers fan - have not seen him for 2-3 years. I must admit I get on well with CJS via this board and I have lots of sympathy for them - their football club Board led by Higgs appears incompetent. Obviously there is banter between the 2 clubs, but after that we have lots in common - we love football and are from the west country
I'm with Banksy. They take the piss out of us for any LITTLE thing and if it were us losing to some part timers in the conference and now sitting outside the relegation zone on goal difference we wouldn't hear the end of it, they would LOVE it. As rivals we need to take the piss, granted I won't kick them to hard when they are down but they still need a foot shove. Just enjoy it whilst it last because they will sort themselves out eventually....
The gas are finished as a serious football club for a long while yet,i did say that will be a very long time before they get back into the football league. Tough tough times for a rovers fan.
"but after that we have lots in common - we love football and are from the west country" Funny you should say that but I would disagree with this, I have noticed that Rovers fans are very different people to City fans, especially in south Bristol. the odd Rovers fan (odd being the operative word) are just, well. different. Its probably the inbreeding and additional digits that don't help..
Remember CJS who at Christmas time went through history to point out that who's bottom nearly always gets relegated and pissing himself with antisapation of us going down. Remember Gas who was supporting the Coventry and who ever just so we get relegated. Remember Saphire who keeps drumming on about £55 million wasted. Remember CJS and Bluebaldee who keep harping on about us only being in existence since 82 and won't stop banging on about it. I could go on and on. Yeah they wouldn't take the piss out of us if the boot was on the other foot.
'They take the piss out of us for any LITTLE thing' Look at how they reacted to a couple of jokers placing a plaque for a few minutes on to the pillars of the memorial gates for a quick photo, did you see some of the hate filled comments on The Post website? "I hate the scum" for instance (and thats not a banter thread.!) yet when it was pointed out that they stack their rubbish bags against those same gates on a weekly basis you never heard another word about it.!
This exactly. 1982 was this clubs worse time and they use it against us. So don't feel to sorry for them because they are ****. KARMA is a bitch..
I think living 60 odd miles from Bristol means I'm not exposed to the day to day stuff - to be honest I don't go in for much wumming, but prefer to talk football anyway. When there is a big club and a small club in the equation, it's almost a right of passage for the small club to have a go at the big club (probably some psychologist would say an inferiority complex trigger). There are 984 posts on the Rover are Down thread
But they say their fans are better than us and if they was in the same league would possibly have more than us.
How can the additional fans, be fans if they only appear if they were in the same league- If you are a fan, it doesn't matter what league you play in-
From 1949 until 1961, Bristol Rovers finished above City in the league. However, even when we were second best, our attendance's were higher than them. We have always been the bigger of the two clubs even if not the best team on occasions.
Some of those 984 posts are mine! I tried to wish them luck for next season and was abused. After the ****e we had on our message boards following their 2-1 win at Adams Park i still wanted northampton to go down so we'd both stay up as living in Wells most of my mates support them. If that's their attitude then f*ck them! Let them wreck grounds at Bath and WSM rather than in the conference.
