Sadly, I think it is competitive due to the quality of the drivers not because of the car. The same applies Alonso at Ferrari. The gulf between Massa and the rest of the top is huge and I firmly believe that a similar quality driver in the Mclaren would be in the same position. Alonso, Hamilton and Button are flattering their team with strong drives.
The thing that has hit Mclaren and Ferrari the most has been the in season testing ban. Before they would have been able to idenify the weaknesses , and corrected them. However the advanatege is to the team that gets their design , nearest to the mark the first time round. It means they have to rely less on wind tunnel designed changes to keep ahead. I mean how many new parts has red bull had to put on the car ?
I can see what you're getting at here fevriul. However, if testing came back surely all that would happen is a lot of money and resources would be needlessly spent. Ferrari and McLaren would still be behind Red Bull because they'd be testing too. Incidentally, it would be bad news for Virgin, HRT and possibly Team Lotus as they wouldn't stand a chance of making the 107% rule in qualifying (and thus wouldn't be able to race) because they probably don't have the budget to test in season.
This is an good debate McLarwum, and along with many others, as it has unfolded you have presented some interesting points. That said, I must voice a personal gripe. I'm not keen on an 'article' which involves pasting someone else's article in full, followed by the completely redundant and somewhat patronizing instruction "Discuss". This is a forum. What else did you expect? I'll probably come back later to attempt to make a better contribution. Sorry: I know you didn't mean to patronize. Nonetheless, you did.
I don't mind these kind of OPs. I guess it's just personal taste but bringing something new to the board and just putting it there as a starter for ten can spin a good discussion, as this did. 'Discuss' is usually ironic, I think.
Who cares if someone puts 'discuss' at the end of their article whether it is ironic or not it is hardly the crime of the century.
a long discussion on the use of discus. I thought it was one of those funny shaped things athletes throw?
Your 2nd taxi is waiting outside Berg. You certainly are doing well on the 'Dad Jokes' today aren't you?
I like your thinking. It would be great to see renault get a win, especially with all that's happened with Bob's injury. A schumacher podium would be nice too.
