I agree 100% and not keen on the idea at all. By all means have them in the squad/play them in any cup games, but please NOT as regular members of the starting 11.
We are back to this subject again. Other Clubs have youngsters in the team at 17 and 18 and that is in the Premiership. According to most fans of NCFC you have to be at least 25 before you can get a game. Arsenal paid £15m for a 19yo and about a week later played him at CB at Wembley against the Champions. I am not suggesting our youngsters are up to that standard but Murphy is supposed to be our most promising prospect for years. He is now 20 years old - how old does he have to be to play the likes of Bournemouth and Brentford in the Championship? If Murphy doesn't make 30 starts this year I will be bitterly disappointed.
It has absolutely nothing to do with their age. In my, and many others', opinion, they do not yet look at all good enough. I put the club's wellbeing above and beyond that of Josh Murphy. If we go up and he doesn't play a minute, I will not care one jot - it'd prove he isn't ready.
I'll admit to knowing absolutely nothing about this bloke but, given Celta Vigo's obvious quality when they played us (even though he might not have been playing), this looks like the sort of player we should be in for?
If he Doesn't play 30 games who are you going to be bitterly disappointed with exactly. Murphy for not being good enough. Adams for not thinking he's good enough. Our coaches for not making him good enough You are seriously barking up the wrong tree with regards to Murphy, I doubt he is anything special and will get found out as most youth players do. It is very easy to look special when new, quick and with loads of space. Something Redmond is now struggling with now he actually has to produce something.
I will be bitterly disappointed if any of the causes you mention occur. This idea that you put him in the squad for a couple of years but rarely play him is, imo, wrong. He will improve with age but not very much especially if he doesn't play. If he is not good enough to play in the Championship at 20 he won't be good enough for the Premiership at 22. Give him game time and if it turns out that he is not up to it then let him move on. We have had far too many youngsters like Francomb, Spillane, Jarvis's etc etc who have been kept on contract for several years on the fringes of the first team before being allowed to drift away. At the moment Murphy is our most promising youngster so give him the chance to prove himself. I appreciate that you can't accept that the lad is anything special because Adams had a lot to do with his development and Adams can't do anything right in your eyes
Morris scored the other day and Chris Martin is looking like one of the most exciting players in this division .
Just because he is our most promising player does not mean he is capable of playing a major part of a (what should be) promotion push. If we had not won the youth cup he would not even be considered, and dare I say it neither would Adams. I just don't go with the argument he should play a set amount of games. He needs to show he's good enough to warrant a continued place. If he's not able to do that then he should go out on loan at a level he is happy with.
I didn't say he should get a fixed number of starts - I just said that I would be disappointed if he didn't make 30 starts this season. To do that his performances would have to justify his inclusion. I think he has the talent to make it - you disagree. Nothing new there.
Kris commons would be a good signing at this level, but 4mil for a 30 year old with experience no higher than champ/spl is quite a wedge imo.
I seem to have started off the Murphy debate. I do think that Josh has the potential to be included in the squad, but not yet as a regular starter. With Pilks gone he is now our number 2 option on the LW (I don't really see Surman playing on the wing). I think he will be included in the squad, starting in cup games and continuing to come on as sub in some league games, but there are still better, more experienced players ahead of him. He will get his chance to show what he can do. Having said that, I'd very much like to see Kris Commons come in. He's a quality player and versatile as well.
The link with Commons also suggests another possibility at Celtic - Anthony Stokes. He had a very good partnership with Hooper there and has a good scoring record over the past 6 years. At 26 he should be at his prime now. Only a thought.
Like many, I was cheered to see Leroy Fer come on today, but it now looks like he's on his way to QPR for £8m, as expected. That's dampened the mood all the same. http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...r_leroy_fer_touted_with_8m_qpr_move_1_3729733 Adams has also ruled out the rumours about Commons.
That would be very weird given that they are clearly a title contender (not that that necessarily rules out our board doing business with them as we have seen so far...) and he featured so much in pre-season with loads of interviews too EDIT only just realised he wasn't even in the match day squad and that his contract is nearly up. Presumably the board is being very tight with new deals offered.
