Couldn't give a fiddlers where he's from mate. I didn't even want him at the Club in the first place. Dunne got in some vital blocks second half and Ferdinand was at fault for their goal. He was turned inside out for a shot they had at Green too. I understand why Redknapp plays Dunne. I don't understand the slating he gets on here though.
One of the best comments I have seen from an opposing supporter after his teams loss, thank you and good luck for the rest of the season.
Wasn't at the match today but the commentator on the radio said exactly the same thing. He actually said that Dunne had had a very good game. But hey what do I know
Interesting thread. Jock, I don't know how you can comment if you didn't even see a stream! From my seat in the Loft that was better than anything I saw from us last season. Hull are a tidy and well set up team, who play for each other, and we learned what we should already know - give a chance in this league and it will be taken. From my seat I couldn't see the defending when we conceded, but Rio was class overall. When we were chasing the game we were obviously more open at the back, but at least we were chasing.......Only question marks for me were Simpson, who is simply not a wing back, and I couldn't really see what Mutch brings to the party, though in his defence his position was switched about 3 times. But a number 10 he ain't. Couple more games and Remy will be back at ramming speed, Charlie did not look happy about the penalty, even before he took it, hope his confidence isn't dented too much, but aside from that he did ok against a good centre back pairing, drilled by Steve Bruce. DT's assessment was very fair - a dull draw would have been about right,, and it was good to see the regulars and Houston plus partner pre match. We have a couple more players to come in, Isla (and I hope Yun) could make a big difference, we may well be ok.....especially if Ale keeps today's form up, a joy to see him back.
Dunne gave the ball away at least three times but was also very influential at times. Barton the same and also Faurlin a few passes not on the same wavelength No point picking at these as for a new Rangers team again we looked very solid. It's a work in progress and to get that stage in the first game after what looked like a nothing pre season is nothing short of brilliant IMO. Rio was class and we contained Hull with a lot of mature calm play. Again I say well done to Harold and the new players as already we have something to be very excited about. I can only dream what this foundation would be like with a locksmith number 10 in the side because as we moved forward with was a mixture of long and short play ( excellent at times) Hull looked very absorbent and calm ... quality as they stuck a foot in at exactly the right time ... that was no accident, no luck and they are very well drilled as most of the teams will be. You cannot prepare for the madness of Taarabt on the pitch and I stand we need him but it looks doubtful. We will have to be content with a lot of side ways movement as we did when Harold first came to steady the ship ... we now know however that maybe as far as it goes with tactics from Harold. The good news is a repeat performance like that could see us get something at Spurs and United before they get their freak on Flair wins you football matches IMO at this level It's a perfect set up for Taarabt IMO but of course that may not happen so we will have to wait to see what happens
I didn't think much of Mutch in the preseason game Oddball but its unfair to judge a player on that. What'd he look like today from the stand?
Looked like a player who has an excellent engine but for a debut he went missing a bit ... this team is a very good prototype Swords make no mistake as there is real quality in there. Mutch will fit in certain of that ... too many look up his goals at Cardiff and expect instant potato ... he is at the cup a soup stage
Hoillet's looked great in preseason but we started Mutch in front of him straight off the bat. Sends a poor message imo. As everyone else has said though- a pretty pleasing performance.
A new season and a new formation, some new players, and yet we still have the same problems. Dead balls: we still seem incapable of getting the ball passed the first defender. We have some very capable headers of the ball in the box, it is criminal not to deliver it when the opportunity arises. Speed of attack: Still shockingly slow. While I agree that we’d rather retain possession than cough it up, we need to at least be alert to the possibility of catching our opponents on the break. Once they are set we seriously struggle to break them down. Playing from the back: Even to a tactical numpty like me this seems to require players who are comfortable on the ball; Dunne is not. He performed his defensive duties admirably, but should be missed out when we are passing the all across the back. On the plus side Ale Faurlin looked classy. I’ll not be happy if Ale is jettisoned in favour of Fer and Barton remains in the team. In the other random observations section: Phillips and Hoilett livened up the match when they came on, but there is no obvious starting position for either in this formation, which is a conundrum as neither Simpson or Traore looked good enough for their rolls. Remy seemed to get better as the match progressed. After no pre-season at all he will need more time to get up to speed, but he still looks a class act. Once he decides not to pass to his lesser skilled team mates, regardless of whether they are in better positions or not, he will be awesome, let’s hope he stays. Judo is still wearing shocking shorts.
Agree with everything you've said Roller. I've listened to Harry's interview on QPR player, and he admitted that Isla was going to play had his International Clearance come in time. I'm not comfortable with the likes of Onouha, Simpson, Hoillet and Faurlin(probably) just being dropped like that. Hoillet actually looked very dangerous when he came on- and probably contributed as much in his 20mins as Mutch did all game.
Barton's dead ball delivery was indeed very poor. Snodgrass showed him how to do it before he went off injured. Faurlin looked the best player on the pitch to me and I found his substitution baffling. Surely it should have been Mutch going off for hoillet? Remy just needs to get match fit and he'll start scoring imo. Dunne did well defensively but he gave the ball away alarmingly at times. Hoillett can play in the hole imo and we again looked much more dangerous when he came on, with his run leading to the penalty.
spot on. looked more cohesive than at any point last season. new players trying to fit in, we're still a work in progress. Draw would have been the right result - certainly didn't do enough to win. Charlie did look slow - hope it's just a match sharpness thing. our penalty was a liberty too.
Good to have you back mate. I feel positive after what I saw today. Not only by what went on on the pitch, but the attitude shown by the whole team, bench included. A big change from last time we were up.
Hit the nail absolutely on the head regarding the Phillips/Hoilett situation there. System completely alienates them, which is tough to watch when we're not utilising the 'wing back' positions properly. They've simply got too much pace/flair to be sitting on the bench week in week out.
Yeah mate same here. Crappy stream for me and the game in full at night on the PL channel in HD. Just watched it over again and on a whole I feel upbeat by our chances this year.
Thanks C'mon ref. Not hard to say really, it's very obvious and I'm sure most on this board agree! I feel that as a club we're getting there. There seems to be a lot less arrogance around QPR this year, from the Chairman right down through the managers, players and fans. I've certainly learnt over the past few years that the PL is ruddy tough, and any team that stays up earns my automatic respect. I'm just hoping that we can!
