Downing was a player we tried to sign several times. Jol wanted him and he does always play well against us.
So the new season starts very much how the old one finished with Arsenal grabbing a late winner after being behind and us winning but only just and a touch lucky. I posted a few days ago that I'd like to see Lamela score in a 0-2 win and that we only scraped a one goal win means for me that our form hasn't kicked in and the season hasn't started yet for us. A missed penalty was lucky for us and the lateness of the goal means we have work t do yet. Ade should have been sold and should not be here.
I don't see much that's different. We're still lacking a decent striker, our midfield is too fussy about getting the ball forward, and our defence has the ability to look as shocking as any in the Prem.
Right HIAG but it was good that our defence leaked none but that was due to Hammer's poor finishing as much as good defence. Considering they walloped us last season it's an improvement. But, I want us to take to the pitch and be the architects of our own victories and not to rely on lady luck and bad play by our opponents. When that starts then so for me will our season.
I've been saying for a while that Chelsea are lucky Rob and I'm not blind to our doses of good fortune from time to time. I'm not saying that we are too lucky but we were lucky today and I do not want it to continue, I want good form goals and defence.
Rose tinted specs? I think it's fair to say I've made my feeling clear over some of our signings last summer, with lamela who is one that needs to justify his price tag. The problem, is too many fans are, and will be, too stubborn to ever change their opinion. I don't see why people think he was awful yesterday. What ever game plan we had went to pieces when Naughton was sent off. Yet lamela still made runs to try and get us into attacking areas, but was brought down at any given opportunity. He was actively trying to create something in difficult circumstances where we had 10 men. I personally saw an improvement from him, which is positive. Yet, once again, Lennon offered nothing, yet no one gets on his back.
I thought this provided a fairly balanced view of Lamela. Having said that, Personally, I didn't see the whole game. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896...9324/scouting-report-erik-lamela?ICID=HP_BN_5
