Agreed Yankee. I can see why others got MOM but Ki did it for me. We also saw a defensive side to his game today - a first I think. Got to give Monk credit for that imo.

    Very good win..quite unexpected.

Pleased that Monk admitted we can be better. At times our passing was sloppy and we looked to be struggling. Shelvey and Taylor didn't have their best games.

That said, many positives. Good defensive structure, well organized. Ki, Siggy very good returns. The build up to Ki's goal included 29 passes....any other team doing this and the commentators would be besides themselves. Also, I thought Montero and Gomis looked very useful and may deserve starts next time out.

Also, generally speaking, quite pleased we picked up some cards...not that I want players out with bans, but because it showed we were not going to be bullied and had some steel about our defense.

Quite happy to be a doubter proved wrong...at least for today<ok>

    What were the "metrics" today?

Only 40% possession. Lots of passes gone astray.

Must have been an awful performance.

We played United at the most of perfect times . Players missing , defence in tatters and we played solidly and scored first .I thought the biggest reason we won is we never let United set up .. always somebody on whoever had the ball for United

The numbers I am going to track were as follows: passes completed 80%, possession 40% , territory 43% Let's see how they are going forward. My impression was that we played considerably more long balls than usual. I don't think our playing style today is similar to the Swansalona style of the last few years. That's neither good or bad; it is what it is and different. We worked two delightfully simple goals with good passing combinations. The key to today is that when we had a chance we took it. Can't really ask for more.

Taylor got tortured as others have said, but if the Jan kid keeps that up he's going give everybody a nightmare. His appearance shifted the game in United's favor until Tiendalli appeared and by that I mean that all the danger came through him.

Montero beat his back and chipped a lovely cross to setup the second goal.

"Everybody" is talking about United being poor / weak and having injuries etc. But I didn't think they were that bad. I really liked Blackett. RVP is going to make a difference of course - no kidding. But United pressed, we contained, we took our chances when they came as a good Prem team should.

    Next match please.

Our one vulnerability is our lack of depth in too many positions. A spate of injuries is going to be a real challenge. Hopefully we will get Fernandez .... however, I thought Amat did a very good job today.

Hopefully Yankee after this result players will be falling over themselves to sign for us. We need to use this result to our advantage on the transfer front.

I thought Amat was fine today - I have no worries playing him. Taylor on the other hand - maybe it's very difficult playing against United's attack, but he just kept getting beat too easily for my liking.

Nobody can honestly say they were convinced we would win this game - but win we did and it's a bonus 3 points for us. We could be sitting on 9 points from the first 3 games if we keep this up.

Totally agree valley , this win will have a berring on many levels ... confidence , players maybe wanting in , players maybe wanting out ...sratching their heads , fringe players playing a HUGE role (Amat and Tiedalli ). Many wins from this one ... got me scratching my head too ..

Janujaz is a handful for any defender in the PL including those of Man City, Chelsea etc. Quite astute of Monk to pull him off after being carded, as if we'd gone down to 10 men we would have been seriously on the rack.

I had us down for a 4-0 beating in works prediction league, let's say a few other results were wrong as well... But I got a point for saying QPR will lose so all is good! <cheers>

"Nobody can honestly say they were convinced we would win this game" I agree Stereo. I think a few posters were saying we'd win but I suspect that was more in hope than anything else. I'm glad they were right and the rest of us were wrong though.

But we have to maintain this and if we're as organised when we play Burnley we should do the job. As you say it's important to get a good start and build on today's fabulous result.
