Huge win for us. Monk has already etched himself into the Swansea record books - first league win at Old Trafford. Huge! Hope we can back it up in the next two weeks. Ki and Shelvey did well holding, and Sigurdsson clearly showed that he means business this season. I said prior to the game to my dad that while I wouldn't have been surprised if we'd lost, I wouldn't be surprised if we'd won. And I feel like that now. Happy that we've won, but not surprised. Business as usual, United were there for the taking today and we delivered. Bring on next week!
"In the past we've often put in good performances against top teams and then lost to teams we should have beaten. " ^^^^^^^^THIS!!! Time to buck the trend, Monk because successive managers have done this. Great win but let's not get carried away. When you've been around as long as some of us have you'll know the Swans have a terrible tendency to shoot themselves in the foot. Fantastic win today though.
I cant believe it we just beat ManU at home in the league and Bt cant even be bothered to mention us. So I come on here to join in the celebration and find half you lot bickering rather than celebrating. Its the same people bickering about the same things all the time. FFS mods sort it out. Sick and tired of every thread being hijacked by childish schoolyard point scoring. We won enjoy the moment and get over yourselves.
spot on! there will be good days and bad days but lets just enjoy our 1st EVER LEAGUE WIN AT OLD TRAFFORD - well done to Monk and the boys!
As the Matchday thread has temporarily been closed can we all have our say on worthy mentions without people hijacking the thread? Firstly, Monk's tactics were spot on. Lets hope he keeps getting it right - his subs were good too and well-timed. For me, Bony was disappointing and completely incapable of holding up the ball effectively. Gomis was much better when he came on. That said, Bony's quick thinking got us the goal so he redeemed himself a little. Taylor was OK but when Janusaj started to run at him he ripped him a new one every time. Tiendalli stopped that, forcing Janusaj to switch sides I believe. Ki was excellent today - looked cultured and had a notable defensive side to his game. Great goal too. Lastly, Fabianski looked very assured and plucked almost everything out of the air. Couldn't imagine Vorm doing that. So well done Monk and the team. Anyone else you think deserves a mention? [Valley - feel free to merge if you reopen the matchday thread.]
Well done Garry. Got everything spot on - team selection, tactics, and especially subs. Bringing Dwight on totally nullified the threat down that side and Monteros helped set up the winner.
Monk did say he looked forward to silencing his doubters? looks like he has done this with some real style. How many years has it been since MANU lost an opening game? 42 years someone told me, and it was accomplished by a Rookie manager from little old Swansea, don't you just love it when a plan comes together, well done Garry!.....................
It just goes to show how meaningless friendly matches are. Man U had a great pre-season, while ours wasn't so good. It's the real matches that count, so don't forget that.
Thought Monk got this tactics and subs spot on today. I thought Taylor had a shocker but hope that is just down to lack of competitive game time. Man U kept Bony quiet for most of the game and was surprised at Dyer not taking his man on more. That said thought Amat and Williams did great Amat in particular seeing as he hasn't played that much ion that role. Goals taken well by Ki and Siggy and also thought Ki did well at times defensively (which I have been his greatest critic of). Tiendalli did well when he came on and Gomis well I think he is going to be strong competition for Bony. Routledge as usual had a solid game and tracked back well. Overall thought we had a slow start but played well as a unit, took our chances and deserved the 3 points. Great win well done Monk and the team. Oh just one thing about the ref. Mike Dean you are the most one eyed ref I have ever seen but you can ref us every time we play Man U as thats 2 for 2 with you in charge!!
The biggest thing for me is the huge confidence boost and the belief gained from this result. It's only one game and we need to assess Monk and the team after around ten games but I'm rather susceptible to over optimism and things couldn't be going any better right now
Agree Daimun. Great win but far too early to get carried away imo. If we don't beat Burnley it'll all have been for nothing. Monk & co need to keep this up against the 'lesser' teams - something we've failed to do in the past.
We need to take the next few games with the same intent as today, and not slip up on the so-called 'easy games', Burnley should be 3 points for us now, but we cannot be complacent...............
