The only thing that worries me about it is that nobody from Pompey has put "FACT" in their post yet. After the Tree creeper's statements last season, including Mark Arthur's Radio Nottingham interview, every time we saw that word on the forum we new he was staying with us. I'd be surprised if he went to Pompey (no disrespect intended), but if his style doesn't suit MM, then he might well be moved on - probably Forest (FACT).
How can a Fact have the word probably in front of it? No one has confirmed this at all - it is mere paper talk - but it has now done the rounds onto the BBC website of all places - i am only here to find out your views on the player and actually have a pretty good discussion with my welsh neighbours I bring no malice to this thread! Peace and Love for all
You obviously don't know the Forest supporters and the history surrounding Whitts. Don't be so pedantic. There was no malice in my comment mate - don't know what you saw in it, but it wasn't there.
Mike, the 'FACT' is a joke at the trees expense. They had signed Whitts last year "FACT, DONE DEAL" plus a few other I can't remember. They took great pleasure in letting us know these FACTS
I apologise profusely gentlemen - I was unaware of last summers goings on! Anyway, I really hope we can get him on board - but can see the dimay it would cause CCFC as he appears to be a popular chap and an all round good egg!
The fact he goes missing now and again doesn't particulary worry me, he has a telling pass and can score from a dead ball, so if at the end of the season his stats stack up thats good enough for me, a should keep for sure. I would have thought if a transfer request had been handed in it would be public knowledge by now. Cardiff have again started to push the boat out in regards to finishing top 6th, more in words than gestures at the moment, thats about to change this week. Verdict...Whitts to stay and be more active under malky, much admired by many a manager and I doubt he has gone unnoticed by Malky.
A few disparaging remarks about my club on here... OK, we've been thru a real hard time lately but we've always seen ourselves as a cut above the likes of Cardiff City. No disrespect but what sort of history have Cardiff City got- not much really. You're definately on the up, and should maybe have been promoted by now, but have you missed the boat in favour of your great rivals a little further along the coast? Will a new manager be able to raise the momentum that was spectactuary lost last season?
Disparaging remarks about your club? You should experience what gets quoted about this one pal - then you'll know what disparaging means. Nothing said on this thread that isn't totally reasonable - after all, it's only a matter of opinion anyway.
I think if we could get 2 - 2.5million for whitts we should snap their hands off. Would be fantastic business for both clubs. I like Whitts, best technical player we've had the last few seasons, No one can hit a pass or shot as sweetly as whitts can, and when you consider that we've had boothroyd, bellamy, ledley and co, thats saying someything. Unfortunatly his workrate is pretty poor, can often go missing, does'nt have enough pace for a winger and doen'nt really work hard enough in the center midfield. Some games he's absent for 70 mins and then produces a bit of majic, but for me thats not enough, we need players who are young and give 110%. As someone said, he signed a new contract last year and will probably be one of, if not the highest paid players we got. If we can get 2 decent young, hungry players for the money we get for him, its a deal that makes alot of sense, especialy when we've got a new Manger whos got a reputation for this.
This, in my opinion, is the problem with some fans of clubs that have been at the highest level but who ultimately failed. They still think their better than what they actually are (none more so than Leeds). History is for the History books and for the fans of the respective clubs to reminisce over a pint but it carries no weight in the present day. I could quote recent league finishes but that would be pointless. I've nothing against Pompey or its fans especially, as mentioned above, since the cup final, but I don't see a move by Whitts to FP as being either a step forward or a step back in his career. Ultimately money talks though but the alleged £1.5m I would assume is a tentative offer to test the water, so to speak. Personally, I hope Whitts is in Malky's plans. Not only for the reasons posted above but I'd have to fork out for another 2 shirts for my boy with a different name on
Once you've resorted to club history to forward you'r arguement, you have lost the arguement! It means you couldn't compete in the present and crept back into the past for help. I doubt Whitts will be thinking about Portsmouths history when deciding if he would like to play for them.
# Sensible post, and I would hope if he does come to us he will see the potential and what the new owners vision is for the club. Whittingham would be one of the first names on the team sheet - is that the case at present?
Couldn't agree more re the misplaced sense of superiority of some fans...when we were on our way back up the leagues, I remember how playing Brentford seemed like we were meeting an established team from the league we had just rejoined...now look at the difference, they'd give their right arm for our current status! As for the shirt name issue - 2 shirts for your boy? Tell him to pick one and get his own name printed on the back if he needs any name at all, then you know it won't become outdated for at least the rest of that season...
Think whitts would be good signing for portsmouth, think he could be a player you could build a side around. However we're cleaning house at the moment and I think its a good thing after the last few years of so close yet so far. With the players we're being linked with who are young and hungry its a good move for everyone, but for a bit more that 1.5m
Peter Whittingham would be an absolute dream signing for us on the south coast- even though I live in London.. - and would surely mean the rest of our midfield would be built around him. Would be a real statement of intent if we signed you great player as he scored double figures in the past 2 seasons. As for the Michael Brown saga; sure- take him. He wanted a new 3 year deal on 25k p/w... money sucking parasite.... while your at it, your club would be able to afford Ben Haim, if your interested. Cant imagine y he'd want to leave ur club for a club with lower expectations at the moment than you!! Anyway all the best for next season, I hope you do 1 better than last season and the season before- get promoted!
Sorry guys. Could'nt resist a little wumming on the side... Seriously, PW won't be coming to us. We've the constraints of a CVA to abide by for a long while yet. There's no way we can go out headhunting the best players of our rivals as things stand. All the best for the coming season
yep 2 - home and away. I've argued the case that players move on but to no avail. Whitts has always been his No1..even over Bellamy last year. For the grief I'd get trying to get him to change, it would be easier to change my surname to Whittingham by deed poll
