Thought i'd throw it out there...

I'm in the pro Remy camp (from a pure football perspective). He is Prem proven and think even with the acquisitions that have arrived we have scope to add a Remy 'type' player.

The reason I say i'm in the pro Remy camp is that how many proven prem players are there out there that can grab the goals we WILL need to progress as a club?

I'm aware that the pie master doesn't give a f**k as-long as we stay in this league but a proven goal scorer would at least show minimal ambition and keep the majority of the toon on side.

As for other areas of the team to show real ambition to the club, its fans and the city, a centre half (of reasonable quality), attacking mid (cough!! grenier) and a proven goal getter (hear Hull could be in for welbeck!!) would be welcome!

All of the above would be great but my head tells me that we are done in this window and will wait until Jan to see how the market plays out.

I think with him we could really challenge for a Europa League place. Without him, nah. We'll probably go on a great run until christmas, be in 6th place, and then have a **** 2nd half and finish 10th behind teams like Stoke and West Ham.

If we can get him I'd have him back without any hesitation, but I'd be surprised if he arrived now.

In answer to 'do we need him?' the complicated answer is:

    1) 'No' for survival
    2) Probably 'No' for mid-table mediocrity
    3) Probably 'Yes' if we want to have some success and challenge for Europe
    4) But 'No' for above if our new players can play in a way that gives Pappis the confidence to start banging them in again once he's fit.

He patently doesn't want to come here and we have given him loads of chances to come ( by all accounts ). He knew he was wanted but said no and was about to sign for someone else. MOVE ON.

May as well ask do we need ?

Never our player, who only came here on loan to help him have a holiday in Brazil sitting on his arse best part of the time.

He doesn't want to return that's patently clear, so forget him and move on.

I personally don't want him back. He has so many opportunities to come and clearly doesn't want to be here. Despite his goals last year, I really disliked him because he was just too selfish with the ball. He was playing for a move to a champions league club and at no point did he ever seem to be playing for the team rather than himself.

This was my original point...forget whether he really wants to be here or not.....how many players out there are not after an enlarged mercenary pay packet? and how many can give the goals Remy potentially give at a cost of a rumoured 80k per week (low in current prem league wages)

Being serious, yes, we may well need Remy.
We'll soon find out one way or another.

You never know, Rivière may turn out better, as could Ferreyra.
Strikers have to start somewhere to get a rep.

18 months ago Remy was untried in the PL as was Bony this time last year.

Be nice to have him. We still need a striker after all.

Having him would only improve us, so yes for me. He's certainly a merc but he was last year and that didn't stop him performing to a consistently high standard. Rather a greedy match winner than a clogger who emptily professes loyalty. We don't know if Riviere, Ferreyra or Ayoze are going to step up to the plate this season nor how long they'll take to adapt and hit their stride. Cisse regaining form seems a big gamble though I retain a slender thread of hope. Any or all of them may turn out to be great this season and hit the ground running but there are no guarantees. Signing Remy would take some pressure off of these players and he almost guarantees a certain amount of goals.

theres plenty of other strikers out there that could do just as well as remy if not better.

problem with him is that he thinks hes better than he actually is, he expects the likes of arsenal etc to be after him and offer wages in excess of 100k a week, very deluded!

i agree with the comment above about cisse, i hope and want him to have a good season when he's back

Not sure I agree with this. I fully believe he could get in the Arsenal team and really don't understand why they haven't snapped him up. Quality player when he is motivated.

He is quality. He has end product. Reads the game around him well. Passes at the right time and is selfish when needs be.

He was willing to take a pay cut to move to Liverpool and play in Europe. When it comes to choosing between two teams who'll win nothing he goes for the most notes. It doesn't make him any less effective on the field.

First game of the season today, and people still want to go on about a mercenary, who unless I've missed something, pulled out of games when he felt like it at the end of last season. He robbed the fans as much as the club.

Who seriously gives a f*** about him.

If he was that good, why are the top clubs in England and Europe staying clear of him, odd that given all the money being spent, no club seems to want him.

Let him rot and count his money in London.
