Rotting on a bench? Absolutely hilarious . 43 appearances in all comps last season, 30 in the league AND it was his first season with us. How on earth do you consider that to be 'bit part'?
Jose obviously didn't see you as a significant threat in the short term. As I say, he's a good player but you already have some good number 10's so he hasn't added that much. Defence was and remains your issue, as does a combative midfielder.
How is 30 league appearances a "bit part"? He will more than likely be a start now, after the good form from last season and the good performances he put in for Germany in the World Cup. Like Drogs said, it was his first season.
Agents don't like settled players. Moves mean money, a percentage of a transfer, or a percentage for a new deal if a club thinks a player they want to keep may be going elsewhere. All clubs can do is call the agent's bluff. Agents make their clients 'good mates' so the hissing evil in the ear actually sounds like a friend just looking out for you, and 'how is the other half and the kids? found that new school yet?'.
This. Also agents plant false rumours of player discontent so that the players existing clubs try to win them over with new, enlarged contracts (which again usually means a hefty signing on fee for the agents). Agents are evil!!
How many were off the bench though? Without knowing the stats my impression as an outsider was that Hazard, Oscar and Willian were the preferred players in the 3. Some of Schurrle's games were as a Centre forward I believe.
Of course they were, but are you seriously coming on here to agree that Schurrle was a bit part player rotting on the bench last season? Utter bullshit. Schurrle played 2 games at CF and only started 1.
I have a feeling Oscar is going to be playing further back beside Matic and Fabregas now. Or he could play in the middle of 3 in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Either way Hazard, Schurrle, Terry, Costa, Matic and Fabregas should start every game they are fit for imo.
I still don't get who you are agreeing with, Sir Red or us? Schurrle was not a bit part player, nor did he rot on then bench. It was his first season and he is still relatively young, why would he expect to start every game?
Do I have to agree with either? My point was down the middle of the 2 views. The thread is about whether there could be any truth in the rumours of him leaving. I'm suggesting there could be if doesn't feel he is first choice. Absolutely disagree that he was bit part, but to stay he may want to feel he has Murinho's confidence. Possibly.
Looks like Marco Reus is joining Atletico for £25M, which should put an end to the Schurrle rumours. Why would Schurrle move to a new league to be a bit part player behind Reus & Griezmann.
Can't see andre going anywhere. He' at arguably the biggest and most sucessful club currently, in the joint best league in the world, playing with a great squad and a legendary manager, getting paid well, and is enjoying his footy. I don't see any club that could offer him a better package than that in world football atm; only maybe bayern, madrid, and barca. But they are all well covered in his position. Plenty of clubs may want a player, but it doesn't mean anything unless he wants them.
If Reus was fit, Ozil would have been on the bench with Schurrle. But it is great news for us that they are close to signing Reus as it means the ridiculous rumours of a departure from SB will go away.
I'd take him at Liverpool if he was on offer. Versatile player who can play across the front and has pace and an eye for goal. Still young as well.
