So like most of us, I am buzzing for the start of the new season. I have been thinking of the last time we went up and the near disaster that could have followed. There are a few similarities but i think we have learnt and there has been improvements So I will start with the things I think are the same and how it is better this time round. Firstly Thin Hoops. How in gods name did this happen again. Well it is simple Nike just chuck a crap kit at you the first time round. I can live with that. Knowing that next year the club have said they're well aware of what we think and things will only get better. The whole Nike contract in my view is a major coup for the club. To get the Arsenal Kit team working on our kit is massive. Over twenty years of experience hand to us, very nice. I saw Palace have Nike as well. i bet they are not getting that kind of service from the company. Also we had no sponsor which just was embarrassing oh and that orange thing. We were not the best team in the Championship. Well there is an argument we were for the last time round. But for this i am saying we weren't. Due to the fact i think Adel carried us and it is kind of the whole point of the post. This time i think we were poor. You only have to look at the way Derby bossed as in the final. last time round both Swansea and Norwich did very little to strengthen their teams to get ready for the premiership. We on the other hand had our hands tied. Which lead to mistakes in the last week of the window. This time I believe we have a slightly stronger squad to start with. But more importantly Harry has the funds to strengthen. He has and he has done a fantastic job. Bringing in a bit of Quality and the right sort. Also with more to come. So here are the improvements The Team and the squad are much better this time round. Starting with Green in goal and Cesar as back up. We have three solid centre backs with Dunne hill as back up. We have a group of wing and full backs that will be up to premiership standard. Some people saying Isla should be playing for Utd. In the midfield we are again more solid. With Ali now having Premiership experience on his side, we know he is quite happy at this level in fact he looked pretty bloody good last time. Barton can cope at this level. Bringing in Mutch was a great purchase and we should be getting in the Dutch lad, this will do us the world of good. I believe also we have some great options for the wings as well. Hopeful Phillips can step up to this level, Armand seems to have found his position on the left and hopefully Hoillet will have the season we have been waiting for. Which leads me on to Strikers. That was are weakness last time round. If we can keep Remy for this season I think we will be more than fine. We all know what he can do. With the french trying to qualify for the European championship. He will be busting a gut to look good. Charlie will also have something to prove. He knows exactly where the goal is. Lets just see he can find in the premiership. If Carroll can do it, there is no reason charlie can't. The management and the general running of the club has probably been as good as it has been since i have followed the club in the early 90ies. Harry is a great manager and will do us very well in the premiership. I get the feeling he will give it a couple of years to build the foundation of a good squad to hand it over to some one who will push us towards the top of the table and Europe. And then there is Tony and Amit. I really don't have to say any thing about these two. All in all in my opinion 17th place is ours for the taking. Hopefully we will have it before the end of the season. I have Uni on Mondays and can't be doing stressful Sunday nights in May. Here is for a great season. Onwards and upwards
good posst mate, only thing i disagree on is i think Hoddle will be in charge before a couple of years. If not this year them almost cert next. i'll be happy with that as long as we are still in the Prem. See you Sat.
Great post, very good assessment, some realism with an optimistic view point. Roll on Saturday, hopefully our Sunday will dawn bright with the R's having secured three points with a decent performance.
