So who do you think these 2/3 will be? Most likely a CB, a Midfielder and a Striker to add squad depth
Great. So we've just weakened our front line and we're going to fill the gap on the cheap. You're only as good as your strikers, didn't you say that once Steve? Spend the bloody lot on a striker get a real quality forward in, it's the only area on the pitch we look piss poor.
I disagree, Our goals to game ratio didn't change when Long and Jelly came in. The area we always lacked was creativity in midfield. The main threat we possessed last season was from set pieces (jelly and Davies) and from the crossing of Elmo. This year we have brought in more creative players, our midfield looks stronger with Ince and Snodgrass. Aluko looks like he is getting form back. Playing Sagbo more centrally too.. I think we are in a much better position. A decent defender and another striker away from being a solid mid table team.
I don't understand how people use the goal per game ratio as a good indicator. Without Long and Jela, it would have been a lot lower. If they were here at the start of the season, it may have been higher. It's an isolated stat that doesn't offer any insight into their impact.
Has SB given an interview that I've missed? I do think we need a striker.... Rather than splitting the money up and bringing in a few players, although I guessed that there was already a couple coming in before the Long transfer, so perhaps the 12m will still be the ball park for a new forward.
BBC website live feed 09:36 Hull City manager Steve Bruce Hull City manager Steve Bruce is putting the record straight on transfer rumours surrounding his club. Bruce has been linked with Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck and Hamburg's former Tottenham player Rafael van der Vaart in the wake of Shane Long's move to Southampton. He says he is looking for "three or four" new signings - but not Welbeck or Van der Vaart. "We have irons in the fire for an instant replacement," adds Bruce.
In the overall scheme of things nothing has changed. I guess if Brucey could get his preferred targets one would be Dawson, the second would be the young lad at Cork, Brian Lenihan, third I suspect is a loan signing for midfield with a view to signing in 12 months as we did with Jake, and finally a replacement for Long at c£8-9m?
I suspect we were already in for 2/3 players before Long left. I'm sure they wont come out of the £12 million received for Long.
I feel that's what we need if Quinn leaves. We'll also need another right back if Elmo leaves, I think it'll be the lad from Cork as back up to Rosey. Other than that, it'll be a centre back and then the chunk on a striker.
Where does he suggest that those 2 or 3 signings will come from that £12m? He could be spending more than that with 8-10m going on one player...
I really don't want to see Quinn leave. I understand he's hungry for football but with our (hopefully) extra European games and all of the cup competitions I feel he would be vital, always really liked him.
I think the 12 million received for Long will not be the deciding factor in what we spend. The club have maintained that we will look at each deal on its merit and do seem to have been doing that. If we could get Danny Welbeck for 14 million I think we would but I also think this is extremeley unlikely and I think the club probably do too. We seem to have been interested in Deeney but looking at the deal on its merit seem to feel (I agree) the price being asked is too high. Bruce has stated he is looking for a central defender and central midfielder. I also seem to remember him saying that if we lost Fryatt and managed to get rid of Prossie; we would look for a striker. Having sold Long (a good business deal even though I'm gutted to have lost him) I think we will be looking for a 2nd striker too. So there are your 3 or 4 to my mind some of which may well be loans.
Considering we'd spent our budget and, until long went, we were only getting one more on loan, it suggests the long money is being split if were bringing a few more in.
He said the money from Long will be used so could just see Allam saying using that £12m. But I see your point considering he was probably in for someone else.
In the smoke and mirrors world of the transfer window separating truth from fiction is pretty tough, remember the maquire deal one minute it's off next he's here for a medical. I still think Deeney is a likely deal we were told the fee Watford wanted was too much for Leicester and QPR but how much truth is there in that in the same way the Remi deal collapsed based allegedly on a failed medical despite Arry saying otherwise. How many of us expected Long to go ? What we can say for certain is that City have an astute manager the best we've ever had who knows his way around the transfer market and is not phased by dealing with (relatively) big players and big sums. Secondly hard though it is for us old timers City have some financial clout and represent a not unattractive proposition for a standard of player we not long ago could only dream about . I think a deal for Dawson is very likely and possibly a midfield enforcer. In Bruce we trust
Two loans & Two permanent signings - Center Back - Dawson - Central Midfielder - Thomas Carroll or Andros Townsend or Moussa Dembele - Striker x2 - Jordan Rhodes (Bought) / Joel Campbell (Loan) or Harry Kane (Loan) Which could also mean Boyd, Quinn and Bruce out. Although I think Boyd is too valuable at this stage to let go. Sam Byram would have been a good shout but at this point with Elmo and Rosenior I don't know where he would fit. The thought of Robertson Maguire and Byram in defence in 2 seasons time is mouth watering.
