I think its great that we have home grown players and manager willing to learn the languages of incoming team mates...makes people welcomed and gets rid of the them and us that can happen.

I noticed last year that all the Spanish speaking socialised together but not many of the others. But in th US it was a lot more mixed.....team building as Brent would say lol....

I agree, really good attitude to have - why everything has to be twisted these days I don't know

Well I'd prob say there has to be groups in any organisation as it's natural but being closer to one or other isn't the same as not getting along

My thought today is with Kelly one the only locals are Gerrard and Flanagan so you have to wonder about the real links to the community going forward

I think the days of local lads playing for local clubs is mostly gone. There's so much scouting these days and huge networking that players as young as 8 are being found and poached by big academies and young teenagers moving to different cities to get the best coaching. You don't get Liverpool's top scout scouring the fields down in Toxteth and unearthing a sunday league player ready to hit the big time; talent is found and snapped up well before that these days. Rather than looking for local lads, who will either be in our academy by now or not good enough, I'm fine with just an English core - and I'm really happy that Rodgers is managing to play such brilliant football with British players at its core too!

Especially in such a multicultural game now that we have in England, a good proportion of British players is the best we are likely to achieve with regards to community links. Who's in our academy who's actually local? All the better known prospects seem to be foreigners we've poached from elsewhere as young teenagers...

wellllll.... given sterling is from london and ibe is too.. wisdom is from leeds it suggests a bit fo failure on our part.

then again... the best southampton successes are not necessarally form southampton par se are they? wlcott aint, ox chamberlain isn't and neither is shaw.

john sotnes is from barnsely apparently.

I dunno but the rules are clear about catchment areas. there should me some talent to develop!

    Rossiter?

I mean even if you have scouts looking local it doesn't mean you will find lots of players in the same generation in the same area, one maybe two (that other clubs haven't snatched up) is more realistic is it not? More likely you'll get a few more than that to a level they can have careers elsewhere.

Apparently there's been a malaise at grass roots nationally, not being from Liverpool has it been more or less effected than anywhere else?

Do you locals know if LFC scouts turn up to local youth leagues any more or less than say twenty years ago?

Watched a bit of Stoke vs Real Betis, Bojan had a really good game. He seemed to have a very good touch and scored an absolute belter. Spent the game hanging off the center halts shoulder then losing him every time a ball came in.

Think there will be a few teams this season wondering how the hell Stoke got him for so little money.
