It was a small area in Long Island, hardly rained here in Manhattan at all., and looking out of the window now a great sunny day.
On behalf of Long Islanders, let me say that it was wet and wild all day. Starting at 2:00, it sounded like somebody was pouring buckets of water on my roof. The rain lasted for hours. The places that usually get puddles in the rain, got lakes. The areas that flooded, well, got really flooded.
Strange comment. That video shows it is in Long Island and QPR New Yorks post confirms it was bad as well.
Damn, I've been to Manhattan twice and we had storms both times I must be really must be unlucky, fortunately 9 million sellers of umbrellas appeared every time.
The impact was felt all over Long Island, even though the rainfall was measured at great extremes over two Counties. From our local newspaper, Newsday: My office is in the 13.57 inch rainfall area. I can tell you it was no fun driving around yesterday. Those roads are major East-West routes. If they are closed, there are real problems getting around. The media likes to sensationalize, it is true, but it was real bad here for awhile. Some people are are spending the day drying out their cellars. Otherwise it is a real nice day, sunny and warm with LOW HUMIDITY.
Large areas of South London were flooded this afternoon, a real cloudburst around 3.00pm, lots of basements under water and roads blocked for a while...
Rainfall that previously was said to occur once in 200 years is unfortunately becoming much more periodic than that, I had a new architect-overseen zinc roof fitted above my kitchen which had drainage capabilities equal to once in 200 year rainfall events; it's been overwhelmed twice in the last three years. Either that or they didn't do a very good job, which I suspect.
