It's pretty obscure to be honest and you'd have to a massive soft-arse to actually take offence at it.
some manchester united fans dont like people calling them "Man U" or "Man Utd" because they believe this myth that opposing fans abbreviated the clubs name down to these so they could sing about the munich disaster (horrific) using the word manure, but this simply isnt true. newspapers reporting on matches in the 40s and 50s regularly abbreviated the name to make it smaller to print, this is way BEFORE the tragedy. the club itself even used the abbreviation, even selling merchandise with it on; please log in to view this image
