Newcastle United and Southampton have agreed to fix away ticket at the lower price of £25 for adults and £5 for concessions for their return Premier League fixtures during the 2014/15 season, with the sides meeting at St. Mary's in September and in the North East in January 2015. So just for away supporters?
Probably agreed due to the distance between the two cities. Travel expenses for away fans are usually pretty high for this fixture.
Well done to Newcastle, I know they got into a lot of trouble with their ticket pricing with Saints last season and had to pay each supporter a refund, but this is a good way to make amends. With the recent releases of ticket prices for Liverpool & West Ham being well north of £40 for an adult this is a welcome change in tactic. Despite the Liverpool game being one of the most eagerly anticipated away matches in recent memory the club has struggled to shift tickets because of the price point. I went to WBA & Arsenal last season which offered similar "value" and it's a big impact as to whether I travel especially with internet streaming and pubs showing all Saints matches. Hopefully Saints will put together similar agreements and this can be the start of a league wide fix on away ticket prices. Lets put the money back in the pockets of the fans
I'm sure wisescummer will confirm but I think he means that season tickets work out at about £30 a game. So home fans will be paying a bit more than away fans. Hopefully if this gains any sort of momentum and away prices fall then home prices will have to follow.
I think it's to factor in the fact that a return train say will cost £50+ but a typical NUFC fan will be a stone's throw away... I certainly wouldn't complain if away fans (from considerable distances away) paid less to come to St. Marys
No, I misunderstood, for some reason I thought it meant that all tickets were reduced to £25 for that one game, which would undercut the season ticket. Too much work and not enough sleep...
