So with Moreno ( almost) signed what do we need to complete the jigsaw?
Obviously most pressing issue is a striker. I think we should go all out to get the best. But who? Think we will end up with Bony but would be ok with that.
Backup keeper?. Unlike some I am ok with jones but is there anyone cheap or free that would do better?
Defensive midfield? Unlikely I think but would have loved us to see a 'Mascherano' type but don't think so not in this window.
I am pretty happy with our dealings so far ( think lambert will prove his worth because he is a good player) and feel confident that we will be top 4 again. Or maybe just go out and win CL!
Looking forward to seeing markovic and lallana and how they fit in. Very keen to see Moreno but don't think that will be this week. Defense looks a lot better now and think lovren will be an excellent signing.

As long as all our signings settle and perform well, and Sakho gets going well this season I think it is just a case of fine tuning.

Obviously we need another real good quality striker who can chip in a good amount of goals. Immediately.

Improving our goal keeping options also looks wise to, but can wait IMO.

I'd still like to see another versatile winger/wide forward/playmaker type player to. But again this can wait, unless some one like Reus becomes available. Maybe Suso can stake his claim here.

    Thats three signings.

Can could turn in to 1 of 2 things. A dominant box to box, pace setting midfielder. Competition to Henderson or extra muscle in the middle, or a DM, depth and long term replacement for Gerrard. Which ever he turns in to we have to sign the other. If Can settles in DM maybe Luis Alberto can make his claim in midfield, or if he settles in CM maybe Lucas can refind his form.

More likely I'd say thats 4 signings.

Finally, I have concerns on Enriques fitness. He needs to move past these issues this season or move on and be replaced.

    So that could be 5.

For this summer, all I want is a striker... anything else is just going to upset the balance and settle too many at once...

I'm like you- I'm OK with Jones... I think he looks worse than he really is. He flaps about a bit, but he doesn't let many in, which is a keepers #1 goal.

Sure, if we can get a great player in for cheap anywhere on the field we should do it- but we don't need more than a striker. GK might be nice- but not necessary.

I think this is Gerrard's last season*. Think we need to address Defensive Mid- but I'd rather settle with Gerrard and Can this summer and replace Gerrard next summer, than bring in more instability.

Just a striker for me. Save all the money we have left and buy the best striker that we can with that money.

    * By Gerrard's last season, I mean last, fully competitive season where he starts games on a regular/semi regular basis.

    I agree.

Every signing made bar lallana and lambert follow a clear age and potential strategy.

So we have to progress can from high potential to high performance for example and if we do his value rockets

So the striker I want would follow this as 40 mil say spent can't be on a player who in 4 years will be worth 10 that's no good

Reus is the guy one feels

I don't feel any guys... and Reus isn't really a striker is he? Although he is one of those players- where his price may make buying him worthwhile, even though his isn't a priority position for me.

He'd be more of a false 9 or wide forward.

Yeah, striker would conclude this transfer window nicely and I'd be really happy with our business.

Obviously re-evaluate in January, but I'd be looking at the other issues next summer; a goalkeeper IF Mignolet doesn't improve (I think he will) but at least a better backup, another wide forward option (although maybe Ibe will step up this season) and a DM to replace Gerrard (yada yada, can't replace, blah blah).

Lacazette for the striker. Vela for the wide forward (he's looking class since leaving Arsenal). Erm, Vidal for the DM <laugh>

Reus for me would make this a perfect transfer window and make me forget about Suarez. ( which I nearly have anyway but may remember him when we are struggling in games) I would forgo another striker if we could just buy him. Other than that not overly fussed with a big name signing. Just someone who can take over from Sturridge when need be and knock in 10-15 goals a season

And Borini looks finally to be on his way. Shame he never got a real chance but good deal for us.......

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says he is confident of completing the record £14million signing of Liverpool striker Fabio Borini "in the next few days".

Both clubs have already agreed the fee for Borini but Poyet's efforts to convince the player to move to the Stadium of Light have so far met with frustration.

However, the Uruguayan has reiterated his desire to seal the club record transfer and believes it could even be completed before the season starts at the weekend.

The 23-year-old Italian spent last season on loan with the Black Cats, scoring 10 goals in 40 appearances, and played a key role in the club's run to the Capital One Cup final.

Poyet told Sky Sports News: "The idea was to have the deal done a few weeks ago, but for different reasons it was impossible, but we are confident that maybe in the next few days we can do something about Fabio.

"I'm always thinking that we can add quality players, especially the ones we know, and let's hope that confidence I am trying to bring to the club is confirmed...with the signing of Borini."

Lacazette looks decent enough here to. Not as great as the vid I posted earlier but he scores two goal and has pace and movement is very good.

Comparing him to Remy I dont see why we are not in for him.

Whilst I've got nothing against Borini and in time he could have become a fairly decent player, he'll never be of the quality to be a first team regular for us. So getting £14m for him is a massive result.

Also gives him the chance to play regularly at a club more his level and he's already well liked. Good deal for all involved, we get the money, Borini gets the football and Sunderland get a key player from last season.

Still think we made a big mistake not going in for Griezeman (spelling).
