Interesting one. Seems like Burnley most definitely are gambling that he will keep them up and the fee lost will be more than offset by another year of TV money. Which is of course another factor in some of the fees (affect on chances of avoiding relegation / gaining promotion)
I was self limiting for the sake of argument, and on the assumption that Saints have had fingers burnt with high priced overseas players (Delgado, Ramirez (to date) and Osvaldo). Yarmolenko is an interesting one and I remember seeing the rumours and not being able to understand why we wouldn't be in for him. Maybe wages are prohibitive (I think the clubs in Russia and Ukraine tend to pay a lot). He is also not guaranteed to be the "15-20" goal man that pundits keep banging on about. I suppose that was once of my main points (the rareness of those players). But for the same price I agree he would definitely have been better than Long and a more obvious fit for our system But I think it looks like we are trying to avoid high priced foreign strikers.
This could happen, but more likely at the end of the season as if Burnley are not selling now they will not sell in January. Unless they are adrift with something like 10 points. But I don't see that happening in the league again Also I would be surprised if Jay has had enough games by January to generate a sufficient bid for him. We have to remember at this stage his suitors are Spurs who could easily have sacked Poch by then (if they have a poor first half and look a long way from 4th - although I think they will give him more of a chance than AVB). Additionally Spurs seem to not have a lot of cash. They are offering player swaps for their deals (e.g. Depay for Chadli + Cash). On the flip side Poch could have got the best out of Lamela who I would imagine will be playing inside left (e.g. Jay's position). So unless they want him as the central striker, a role I'm not sure he is best suited for then he might not have a move he can force through
Look like philhul was right. Definitely a split opinion of the two Hull posters on this thread. Both ends of the spectrum I must admit 12m as a Hull fan may not suddenly look as good if it effectively became Deeney + 2m. But who knows he could work. Would be a gamble as I posted above. Not sure who else would be on Hull's target list for that amount or less. If not championship then perhaps looking to Erdevisie like saints?
Question: Has there been any decent source that has said this is a 12.5m fee (be it upfront or installments) rather than a lower fee and performance based add-ons, to reach 12.5m? There is a definite difference between the two things.
Then we're in for a world of hurt. While prices in every area are high, there's no more inflated market than that for experienced PL strikers.
The local Hull Paper has said 12.5m and BBC's article said 12m. No mention of performance based add-ons but I'd not be surprised if they were there, it's just not being reported anywhere.
Yeah, we settled this. The Hull fan edited his post to note that he'd accidentally taken it from a non-official Twitter account and I didn't see the edit.
