Now Billy Sharp has already been a ****ing failure at Southampton so why the **** would they buy him back.
I'd defiantly take Gary Hooper as I think he played in a system that didn't suit him and in a team that where awful. However. I would only want him in addition to another top quality striker.
Bruce likes him, otherwise he wouldn't have tried signing him from Celtic before he signed for Norwich. My preferred option would be to keep Long, but clearly, that doesn't look likely. it's a better option to sign someone who knows what the Premier League is about than some foreign gamble. I can't believe someone joined the forum and their first post was to suggest that £8m disaster that Cardiff signed - Cornelius. Joker.
According to Talksport Long is in Southampton discussing terms and hopes to be in their squad for Sunday at Anfield.
I forgot about West Brom. If anything this just proves that Gary Hooper wouldn't be an improvement on Long.
Just tuned in to an Irish Radio Sports programme - in a nutshell they said: Ridiculous price for Long; no logic to it; Southampton have lost the plot; Koeman, with the imminent start of the PL and having lost out on Hernandez is hitting the panic button - (you will like this) Hull knew it!!!
Big question is does Brucey have someone lined up... and are we gonna rush to get someone in before QPR or should we take our time to find the right person.
I definitely think we will act on getting them signed for our next game. It'll just be Long swapped for Jela on Saturday. Two reasons: 1. We don't want to rush it and sign someone we don't necessarily want for a lot of money. 2. We want to ensure the Long deal goes through, it may end up not happening and if we rush a transfer through before the Friday deadline we may be left with a problem.
We won't be shoving someone into the starting 11 who has only been with us a few days. Same situation with Huddlestone and Livermore last season, similar timing. Who knows, like last year Bruce may be about to reveal our marquee signings of the window, a few days before the first match. Doubt it though.
The media are quick to say that Southampton are over-paying massively but when you look at our options for a replacement we would have to spend almost all of the money on players who are completely unproven at this level. Football has seen huge price inflation due to increased TV money, simple as that. What used to be a £5m player is now a £10m player etc.
Did Jelavic ever play when Long didn't? I never thought they were a good partnership, Jelavic may do better without Long taking up the same space.
