8 million is to much , cant believe this was not taken care of previous ... we look needy and prices seem to rise when you appear in need .

Cardiff paid £8m for Caulker, now THAT is too much.

£8m for an Argentine world-cup finalist centre-back, do you really think that's too much?

And maybe "it wasn't take care of previously" because Chico hadn't left previously.

Cardiff paying 8 million for Caulker stands alone in its foolishness, doesnt make the Fernadez transfer look great though . We are overpaying for Fernandez imo . It will take a new guy eons to get the drill on how we work and who knows how he will do , at least Bartley and Amat aready kinda know the scoop . Like I say , do to the late circumstance s involved , Id give these guys a go till January , guys like Davies and Routs got theyre chance when they were used little previous and it worked out pretty well . No new CB and no cover for Britton going into the start of the season is worrying to say the least .

I would have rather paid £8 million for Caulker. He knows the system, he knows the PL and knows Ash. I thought one of the reasons for not buying him was because we didnt want to spend £8 million on a CB. Irrespective of the fact that Fernandez is and international or not Caulker is a proven PL player would have made more sense to me. Of course Caulkers wages might have been another reason (apparently on over £50k a week at Cardiff) either way Fernandez wont be playing in the next couple of games whether we sign him or not. I am still not convinced with Amat or Bartley though!

Everything we are basing Amat and Bartley on , is a game played here or there . If push comes to shove , Im thinking Bartley might be the one who will take hold of first team football if no one comes in and build a bit of confidence from a regular spot

Read again! The article suggests that there is no delay with the transfer.

Sorry but Fernandez is a much better player than Caulker.

Fernandez stayed on the bench for the first three games of the Brazil 2014 qualifying competition. Yet after starting on matchday four against Colombia he has rarely been out of the side, racking up 990 minutes of pitchtime during the preliminaries, a figure topped by only three of his team-mates.

Caulker couldn't even get into the England squad known to have one of the poorest defences they ever had!!!

The prospect of playing Bartley at Old Trafford fills me with terror. We'll be shredded. Nowhere near good enough.

Amat has a bit of speed, but he got kippered several times last season. So that's quite a scary prospect too.

Get this Fernandez guy in pronto, get him up-to-speed, and get him in the team asap.

SWEP says fee has not been agreed yet. Even if he does sign I reckon, because of his injury, it will be at least a month before he is match fit. I am still annoyed that it is taking us so long to fill the positions that most fans can see are needed. When you take into account the salaries and wages of the players and all the staff I wonder if we are as well off as a lot of people think.

Thought I'd have a look at this transfer balance (as I begin to write I have little idea about where we will stand come the end of the window as info coming out of the club is scarce and some deals may or may not happen...this is just a guess based on what might happen)...

GK - We're probably even, maybe a small profit

    Vorm - out - free (£2-3m in reality...bought for £1.5m) - call it a £1m profit
    Fab - in - free (probably a signing on fee 500k - £1m)

CB - By the end of the window we may have spent £6m here

    Chico - out - £4m (bought for £2m) - £2m profit
    Fernandez? - in - £8m

    LB - We've made approx. £6m here

    Ben - out - let's call it £8-10m (bought for £0) - £8-10m profit
    Timothee? - in - £3.5m?

    DM - Maybe we'll spend £4m here

    Canas - out - £500k - £1m (bought for free...in reality a signing on fee of £500k - £1m) - £0 profit
    French kid - in - £4m?

AM - Down £7m temporarily. Probably will balance out by next summer.

Michu - out - £1m loan fee (maybe a future transfer of £6/7m?)
    Pozuelo - out - £500k-£1m? (bought for £500k - £1m)
    Siggy - in - £8m

    WG - Maybe we're down £7m here

    Pablo - out - £small fee (I'm gonna guess £2m....bought for £5m) - £3m loss?
    Montero - in - £4m?

    ST - We're probably down £10m here....Bony is the x-factor

    Lita - out - £released (bought for £1.75m)
Gomis - in - £free (in reality he's on our top wages and has received a signing on fee anywhere between £5-8m)
    Emnes - in - £1.4m

Total balance = Are we down £25m+ ?
(Not saying it's all this window....just that £25m+ is the total bill for this window's squad rebuild, which could be nearly halved with the sale of Bony)

Everybody please feel free to correct anything / debate any of the values.....purely guess work on my part.

Although Fab & Bafe were free, reports were of very high wages - may just have been rumours.

And that may have a big impact.

If none of the players leaving were were on big money, those coming in surely will be.

TBH the three we are being linked with would expect big paydays to come to Swansea.

Obviously, we will have had a sizeable transfer budget the last 2/3 summers....I can easily see how people would come to the conclusion that we must still have significant funds available.
It's just that we might be experiencing some cash flow problems if we are getting rid of players who cost us relatively little and bringing in players who's transfer fee installments will be sizeable.

Still it was worth it to get rid of all those Spaniards (ducks and runs for shelter).

His pedigree is also on another level compared to Ash and Chico. We needed a better CB, Fernandez fills this need imo.

If we were to get the three you've factored in the above then to improve the squad we must spend money. We could flip then and say for £25 million, we've bought those three plus Gylfi, Montero, Gomis, Emnes, Fulton and Fabianski.
When looked like that £25 million is a good deal for 9 players, the majority of which would/will strengthen us.
