Poch can come in for him if he wants to. The club have put up resistance to letting players join Mauricio so far.

Krueger's disappointed in Pochettino also hasn't been hidden from the public eye.

The club will hold on to him until next summer. He'll accept that and buckle down as we're seeing him through his rehab.

Sorry, but I don't believe this at all! If you read the official statement by the club Les Reed is quoted as saying that a substantial fee was negotiated, which wouldn't be the case if a release clause was met. Plus, surely the club would have said the clause was met in their statement to reduce/stop the backlash and show that there was nothing they could do. Unless I'm overestimating the common sense of the board in which case you may be right, but it doesn't say a lot for them.

Can we expect another exodus then next summer with Morgan, Rodriguez and whichever of our youngsters who have a good season?

If they want to push a move, yep. Jay isn't signing his new deal and Morgan still wants to leave. JWP is with 'Stellar Group' so they could push a move and it's probably also why JWP was linked to Spurs, because Manasseh and Barnett (who run Stellar Group) are very close to Daniel Levy and are also the agents for Mauricio (and Adam).

We'll probably lose a couple of players, buy a few more.

Unless they offered the release clause but not as an outright amount and we negotiated how much up front and what the extras were etc.

i.e. release clause is £18m, Arsenal offer £12m +£6m extras.

Wouldn't they say that it was met though? If it's not officially meeting the release clause due to some being add-ons, then we could have asked for more in add-ons taking it above the clause, or force them to pay it all up front.

Well it hasn't been met then until the extras are achieved and paid would they?

Hence the board negotiating an 'Oh go on then [nudge] what are you like eh'

Yeah, the current board haven't been above taking shots at Cortese so if he gave Chambers a contract with a release clause and the release clause was triggered then I'd be surprised if they didn't make that information public.

I hope you're right <ok> I really see getting him fit and up and running, then keeping him for the whole season as key to being safe in this league.

Not sure there are any rumours on this page of the thread

What do people think about the link to Ahmed Elmohamady ? He is versatile (right midfield and defence) and is probably a better bet the Schelotto link (for same positions). More used to the premier league.

I remember seeing something that he had made a very large number of crosses compared to other premier league players (could be useful with Pelle up front).
Haven't seen much of him thought (never had reason to...)

I actually think Elmo's alright, and although a month or so ago I would have said that'd be an underwhelming signing, I'm now coming to the realisation that this is the sort of mediocrity our club is accepting. So yeah, why not, bring in Elmo.

I've hated Elmohamady since his stupid ****ing dancing during that playoff game.

Absolutely shocking suggestions from those posters. Makes me wonder what sort of direction they want Southampton to go in. I would despair if we were even so much as linked to those two. I'd rather be competing with no one to get players (as seems to be the only way we can actually sign anyone) than be completing for players with the likes of Harry Redknapp, for a start.

We have apparently dropped interest in Byram.
Elmo has versatility so may feature in more games than Byram would have done due to his ability to cover.

I am not sure where the mediocre statement comes from.
We are a mid table premier league club with a wage cap due to FFP and no commercial revenue to bolster it.

Potentially promising foreign signings and the better players of other mid table teams are the players that we realistically going to be signing.

The only times that has been broken over the last couple of years are:

Lovren (a gamble due to poor form and attitude at Lyon. Not rivaled by top clubs)
Wanyama - arguably still a potentially promising foreign signing as he had only played in scotland (high fee though)
    Osvaldo - overpriced utter disaster
Gaston - a failure so far due to inability settle, inability to fit into the system and seemingly poor attitude. Also relatively large wages

I am not sure why we ever expected the likes of Hernandez, Huntelaar, Rojo (world cup finalist) etc to be coming

Think we'll be successful in terms of holding on to our strikers (bar Jay). Real statement of intent! Will certainly show the PL and CL that Saints mean serious business. Don't mess with the hockey man.

It's the secret strategy to European success - strip Hull of players and we can be in Europe like them next year.

Stop it with this "world cup finalist = too good for us" crap. There's been a decent amount of ****e in World Cup finals. Kleberson won it, for Christ's sake.

I think our ambition to try and sign the likes of Rojo or Hernandez should be applauded but if those players are not interested in signing then we just have to accept it.

It's not sustainable to throw obscene money at them to get them here as that just turns them into mercenaries and us into another Portsmouth or QPR. If they get wind that other clubs with higher stature are interested then we're not going to get them (i.e. - Liverpool/Utd for Rojo, Inter/Atletico for Hernandez) ... at least until the very end of the window if they still haven't moved (i.e. - Osvaldo to us last year)

As others have alluded to before ... it's a wage thing. Rumours of Long being on £55k but I somewhat doubt that. If we have to pay him around that much then it's not good. I'm assuming a lot less. The likes or Rojo/Hernandez will be on a lot more (or would demand a lot more) to come here. We could potentially get them here ahead of perceived better clubs but only if we offer them the wages that would go towards crippling us and also cause disharmony in the dressing room.

As for the rumoured £12.5m fee for Long. I think that's too high but this years market has people paying way over the odds for "proven" english based players - I suppose it's about guaranteeing they'll hit the ground running?
