my hope for the match...fat sam frothing on the sidelines and ranting on about the ref after the match...there is not a finer sight in football than a ****ed off purple faced fat sam spitting in fury all over a tv camera.

Really was not a fan of Rose last year but I think he probably should start at the weekend. I have that nagging feeling we are going into the season a little underprepared so I'd rather not start with a defence that are completely getting to know each other. Plus it would give Davies some time to bed himself in.

Really hopeful Capoue will be available. I think he has looked good this pre season and we could do with his physicality. Him and Bentaleb in the middle for me.

Yeah, Capoue and Bentaleb may be the better choice than either one and Holtby. I was very impressed with Bentaleb last game, and Capoue early in preseason. On the other hand, they haven't played together yet.

I don't think Vertonghen will play. I'm guessing Poch wants everyone both at a certain level of fitness and with a certain degree of comfort with what he wants them to do, and that that's going to take a few weeks. Bentaleb was unusually fit, an unusually quick learner or unusually valued by Poch, all of which seem plausible.

The only plus side for Vertonghen is that his natural ability and style of play is exactly what Poch wants from a CB in my opinion, so even though it's a risk starting him from the off, I reckon he should be able to get into the swing of things very quickly.

I don't think I'd really want to see a Bentaleb and Capoue partnership if I'm honest, there's not enough creativity between the two to assist the 3 supporting the striker and neither have many goals in them either. I'd rather, at least for now, stick with Holtby and have him paired with one of them/ Sandro/ Paulinho, otherwise we're essentially playing with two defensive midfielders. I can understand that sort of formation against any of the top 6 or 7 sides but I don't think playing it overly safe against West Ham is worth it, could result in a drab of a match.
