    On what basis do you think he is not the right manager? Is the special one not the right manager at chelsea, is man citys manager not the right one as they have both lost 3-0 recently.... It was not long ago that martinez and Rodgers were not the right manager for us and they turned out not too bad. What has monk done wrong? I think many on here will have egg on their faces come this season...

    Don't think he has the credentials. Martinez was blooded at league 1, Rodgers had previous management experience , Monk has some, but very limited.

    I hope I'm wrong but that's my opinion. We shall have to wait and see!!

    Funnily enough wasn't it you who didn't want Rodgers here? And wanted us to lose games to prove your own point?

    As neveroff has said, other managers have come through the ranks and learned their craft either by being an understudy to a good manager or by being uber-talented in their own right - sometimes a combination of both. Monk has been handed his first managerial job in the toughest league in the world and it's a big ask. Like many others, from what we've seen so far I fear for us this season but will back him 100% and hope he proves me wrong. It won't be the first time.

    I think you will find it was mainly you who thought that. As others have said neither came into management at the very top level. Rogers had been in coaching for most of his career before he came to us. Martinez started in League 1. No one questions Monks work ethic its his ability or lack thereof of coaching a system/managing staff and in game tactics that some of us are questioning. Again its not based on recent results but more on how we played and his management of those games. As for egg on faces well you would know all about that!! Just because we have well founded doubts doesnt mean there is any humble pie or egg to be eaten if he comes good. Hell I hope he does well I dont want to see him or my club fail, but that doesnt mean right now at this moment that I cant voice my concerns without being shot down, ridiculed or denegrated.

    Given the circumstances;
    - changing the formation
    - a change of emphasis in the style of play (possession stats going down, more long balls being hit, lack of quick sharp short passing recently)
    - The sale of half the 1st team on the cheap (Vorm, Chico, Ben, Pablo, Michu....plus regular subs Canas and Pozuelo...the end of De Guzman's time here also)
    - Monk's involvement in back room spats prior to his appointment
    - The dishing out of long term contracts to Monk's mates
    - The snide remarks from Monk regarding Laudrup shortly after being appointed....followed by the airbrushing of Laudrup out of Swans history that he favours these days
    - The dreadful preparation before our opening game (3-0 loss playing 4-4-2 which could have been a lot more, no fit defensive midfielder, the sale of Chico a week before Old Trafford, the prospect of Bony's imminent departure)

    .....it would be irrational, insane even, not to have fears/doubts regarding the upcoming season.
    Monk and his boys have it within their power to quash this anxiety. They've got to perform and consistently.

    Found this example (on another site) of an irrational "fan"....it struck a chord with me as he reminds me of some of the pro-Monk brigade on here;

    "the one thing i really despise Laudrup for is the type of so called 'fans' he has attracted either from random places around the world and the miserable old school swans fans that have come crawling out of the woodwork claiming to support us since before the war.

    I wish they'd all **** off with the rest of Laudrups crew. If he could take that crappy League cup out of our Cabinet to rid us of these then i'd do so. We beat ****ing Bradford ffs, all these laudrup lovers and SCFC moaners make out like we beat real madrid 10-0 in the champions league final the way they bang on about him winning us our first bit of silverware.

    Sorry for the rant but i've been noticing these negative laudrup lovers on all corners of the internet trolling swans forums/comments sections."

    Small minded, forgetful, and disrespectful is no way go through life ... whoever this loser his.

    Before we beat Bradford, we had beaten 'Pool at Anfield and Chelsea at the Bridge. We were more than worthy winners of that cup.

    And people like me haven't just come crawling out of the woodwork we have been around through thick and thin, through glory and depression, through many years of total waste. I would point out that it was an old Swan - Mel Nurse - who was one of the key people in rescuing the club from demise not so long a go. Thanks to people like Nurse and those that came after, this moron is now able to enjoy Prem league football.

    Same here, although younger than most of you lot :p I was there on the North Bank down the vetch field in the 99/00 season (90% of it). My first cigarette was after the Boxing day game against Walsall in the 00/01 season, which we won 3-1, was the day after my 16th birthday, went into Coggers by the Quadrant, on the way home, felt so grown up haha (sad I know). Coughed chocked and spluttered on my long walk home. I guess the swans will be the death of me afterall :p

    My first game watching the Swans live though was back in 1994, (i was 9) for the auto-windscreens final at Wembley, we used to live in London so was the perfect chance for us to watch them.

    Daiswan v Hereford summer of 2010 (DragonPhil chiming in too....oh the irony, worth a read <laugh>);

    - "pre season for hereford too doh i love it. div two lads in two seasons, tighthuw will be happy....go hereford go make huw look a right idiot...laugh..ok"

    - "i love it...laugh we want more....we want more...rub HJ nose in it come on hereford...ok"

    - "urm i think huw is pathetic...if this is the best we got with 90% first tames then we are in trouble, forest have refused to let pratts play too boot...like dragon says wake up and smell the coffee as the way of huws ambition is filtering down to the squad and long may it continue until jinks is long gone and a distant memory and we get a proper chairman with ambition. the more failures at this stage the better...ok"

    - "proper fans dont stand for the way the club is run..plastic fans dont care and accept the way we are..sorry but been to long a fan to sit back and say nothing, no rose tinted glasses here im afraid, when things are good ill say so but when things are bad then watch out im on it like a ton of bricks...totally unacceptable the way HJ sees our future. he is a nightmare and not worthy to call himself the chairman and as long as he is there i hope he fails like his business did in everything he does,,and this for the sake of the club...wakey wakey your club needs you...S.O.S"

    - "ffs look at what we are saying and dont interpret, you wont find a more passionate fan than me. but we are not being run right as everyone can see but wont admit it. just think why we say what we do. dont pick on single comments look at the big picture. while we are getting beaten by these sides people have got to ask questions on HJ and the way he is running the club, he is not telling us the truth and he is using the club as toys for the boys and dont want us to ever get to the premiership. as someone who worked for the club i have many contacts and get to hear many things going on, few i share many i dont. i dont rant about HJ lightly i know he has no ambition, i know he has a big ego and will do the very best for himself and not for the benefit of the club...try looking at the whole picture and not little snippets ..ok"

    - "thats right just a friendly and im glad we lost as it shows we are not improving, i would rather that than be in the same position when the season starts, we said it would happen and it has now questions need to be answered, i hope we lose every pre season friendlies if it means that HJ has got to wake up and find some true grit and ambition"

    (Swans-m interjects, stating that it is only a pre-season run out...tells Dai and Phillip to grow up)
    - "you will say the same thing when we lose our next pre season doh deluded or what ok"

    - "lets see towards the end of the season who will be right. we superior fans knows best dont forget this seasons going to be fun as i remind you what will happen...stay tuned i wont disappoint as As per usual i again will come out on top ..i always do..ok" - We got promoted to the Prem <laugh> <laugh> <laugh>

    - "the thing is i know im right while most of you think you are right, its a big difference, these one season wonders and armchair supporters dont see the big picture where i have seen it all before many times, thats life im afraid,,,like i always say ..watch and learn..ok"

    From different threads

    - "good post but you need to find a balance because if you think we will stay a championship side without improvements then you are deluded. you know like i know as a long time supporter that if we end up back in div 2 we will end up with 3-4,000 supporters and if we struggle there we could end up like wrexham and in the non league and that is not good for your grand kids to see. we are at a good position now and i want to stay in the championship or higher, so the chairman and the board must at all costs money permitting do all they can to keep us here. sod the romance we need a good manager (we have had three that we could not keep) and good players to stay at this high level of football. HJ is failing us on this they are not finding a balance or showing any ambition, this is criminal and unnecessary as we have enough funds to make sure we can compete with the best with plenty of fans turning up for matches. yes we cant compete with teams like forest and leeds but we can do our best and show some ambition and guts...there is no reason to make out we are paupers of the championship like HJ is doing, the game last night was shameless we were comprehensively beaten by a lesser side and before you say it was a friendly then it was herefords friendly too. i dont buy that rubbish because we lost its a cop out and an excuse, we went there as favorites to win the game. no im afraid however nice and romantic your post looks we need to act like a championship club that actually wants to be there and compete, we are definitely not showing that from top to bottom and because of that we will find it very hard to stay up this season. and like you as a long time fan me over 20 years more dont want us to struggle through an unambitious chairman and board. <ok> "

    - "so much for jinks new manager in place by today pppffffft. what a shower running our club absolutly pathetic just like i have always said..pppfffffft ok"

    - "good managers will obviously turn us down with a chairman who thinks we should emulate exeter,rochdale bournmouth and the like. he dont realise we are in the championship ffs.doh who would want to work for a club where the chairman wants us to go backwards ,laugh tighthuw has lost the plot big time and needs to go for us to move on..<ok> "

    - "we are a laughing stock well jinx is anyway, he is begining to look like a fool (i knew that anyway) to all and sundry, we cant all be wrong in thinking he has lost the plot...up your ambition HJ and perhaps we will get the right man for the job or im afraid we will take anyone who wants a job and the wrong person..<ok> "

    Dragon Phil's wisdom;

    Opens a thread, "Hereford 2 Swansea Nil". 1st post....
    - "<laugh> Get used to it!..............;)"

    Some people respond telling him he's out of order, including 'NewportJack'....
    - "Newport we don't need fans like you either, fans like you keep the cancer alive, we need it removed and fast, if you don't like tonight's result, well you'd better get used to it, because it is going to be a long and painful season, and all because the lady loves her bank balance!.............<ok>

    PS: And I do not revel in our team losing, but it's the inevitable consequence of what skinflint is up to, and no way will I stand by and say 'He's a jolly good fellow'.........;) "

    - "Dai we are being prepared for League 1 mate, you'd have to be senile not to see it!........<ok>" - (We actually got promoted to the Prem <laugh>)

    Different threads

    - "that is worrying rodgers at 6/1, Jenkins not that daft is he?...........<laugh> "

    On Rodgers talking to the Swans
    - "Just about sums up the Boards ambition, surprised that Martin Morgan has been so quiet. maybe we should put in a real Chairman like Martin Burgess, there's the real guy that saved the club!.....<ok>"
