Your avoided the wages question. Do some sums and also consider the 'cost' of having a player earning massively higher wages ban the rest. We are not in that bracket of club.
Hernandez was plan A, Ings was plan B, Long is plan C Can we just cut the **** and move straight to plan Z, and my plan A all along
But it's still a stark drop in excitement. Very promising youngster vs the definition of mediocre. Reality check maybe, but still reason to be pissed off.
Let's see how he does. You never know, we may just suit him down to the ground - none of the Hull fans seem thrilled to be losing him...so...let's just see.
I don't think choosing Long over Ings is the main point. It's having Long as plan C/D/E instead of someone else. We are supposedly striving for European football, but I don't see any other clubs fighting us for his signature.
Bloody hell Joe, it was pretty damn clear I was debating that part as it was in my post you replied to. I'll leave it now. You are very good at being selective.
Do people think we an attract that much better than Long? The "top" players probably have egos and won't want to join a club who are far from the CL. Long's good enough for a midtable side, which we are.
Has there been a mention of striving for European football since Cortese? We're clearly striving to bring the 90s back right now.
Kreuger (I know) has mentioned breaking into the Europa League a fair few times, hasn't he? Or am I on totally the wrong page?
I replied to your argument that Ings would be a riskier signing than Long. What does that have to do with whether or not he would be available?
Name me the players then? As fans we've been moaning and groaning that the board haven't signed anyone as the season starts this weekend. They may be about to gamble on someone and all hell breaks lose. By the way, reading the last ten pages, I'd say signing long over Ings is the main point, that or people are poor at saying what they mean.
There are players outside of England for whom we'd be a big step up. Also worth noting that Long's probably going to be on the highest wages of any player...he was reportedly on 40-45k p/w at Hull, and if we're dropping a massive pile of money to get him, I'd expect that he'd be getting a raise.
Yes, we are short of money. Plenty of teams in the PL can outspend us 2 for 1 so we need to leverage every bit of cash into as much talent as possible.
I personally rate Long, just think he's a. overpriced; and b. does what Jay Rod does, but not as well. As a guess, I'd say his shots-to-goals ratio must be about the same, given he gets sub-standard service a lot of the time, and Jay was getting chances served up on silver plates. But it's only a guess.
It was part of my post and my whole point I've expressed several times in the last ten minutes and the two things in this discussion are linked. I've also aid I think the money is too much for long. I'm just trying to make some sense if the whining on here tonight.
