£12m is a very good return to get on him but not with an adequate replacement lined up. He will be hard to replace will Long, Sagbo is similar but not as threatening to the goal, not many about like long with the speed, strength and tenacity he offers as well as a bit of goal threat. I was hoping he'd team up with Sagbo a bit this season it looked like it could make a fantastic partnership on Thursday.
This is the key. £12m for Long is very good business if we have a suitable replacement. If we don't, we are weakening ourselves for funds that probably won't be able to improve the rest of our team.
"Fee of £12m agreed between Hull City and Southampton for Shane Long. With the player expected to complete his move to Liverpool on Friday."
That it does. I still dont like the idea of selling him when the season starts on Saturday against a QPR team we probably need to get 3 points from.
We don't exactly have to rush for a replacement either. We have 2 out and out strikers in Sagbo and Jelavic, and 2 who can play just behind in Aluko and Ince. Long's departure could actually be a good thing in that it will give the likes of Ince a chance.
If true I wouldn't want us to sign wickham on the back of him finishing the season well and doing sod all before that
This guy was a target earlier in the window, could be a potential replacement? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolbeinn_Sigþórsson
Wickham. No. Hooper. No. Sharpe. No. Remy. Won't move here. Hernandez would be ok. But I'd prefer to keep Long. I hope we keep Long.
