Oh yeah. I would fully expect to hit double figures for us in the PL, and ultimately do a reasonable job. But likewise, the rumoured fee does take your breath away just a tad. He simply isn't worth that sort of money.
Yea he didn't know the fee. I doubt it is £12m to be honest. If it is, it won't all be paid up front.
The talk of champions league always worried me personally. It was never gonna happen, and if we'd kept on trying we would have ended up in a worse situation than Portsmouth. On Shane Long, spending £12m on him cant be much worse than spending £15m on Osvaldo, or the same amount on Ramirez. It makes more sense than spending £10m on Forster as well. At least we need a striker, when in my opinion we don't need a goalkeeper.
He didn't really want for service in '12/'13, and his goalscoring record has been remarkably consistent through his past few years...generally somewhere in the ballpark of one goal for every 300 minutes played.
If either him or Pelle reach double figures I'll be pleasantly surprised. If both manage it I'll french my cat.
Christ, someone tell me this isn't true. Who on earth at the club thinks that Ings is too much at that price but then turns around and thinks "Hmmm, we've got ten million, who can we get, I know, Shane Long!"
Think i would rather have Jelevic than Long to be honest, and if we are going to spend £12M then FFS go and buy Ings or Borini. Wickham for the £5M being spoken about would surely be better value. This is reminding me of when we sold Shearer i think it was, then spunked a lot of the cash on Dixon and Speedie.
Forgot about Borini. He would do a job, and the accepted bid from Sunderland was around the same as Long's reported fee.
are any of the players we sold likely to hit 16 goals in 21 league games last season? edit: obviously I mean next season. wtf?
Well time for bed, hopefully I will wake up and realise all of this Shane Long talk is all just a nightmare?
I'm really hoping this isn't true. I honestly can't understand why we don't just give this money to Burnley for Ings. I hope the board disclose the fee if it happens so we know whether they're barking mad or if Sky are chatting ****.
If Burnley refuse to accept, we can't go any further - regardless of how much the club or the player want each other.
I always thought it would be odd if Burnley sold him this summer. £10-£12m is nothing compared to another season in the PL and Ings is their main chance of scoring the goals to keep them up
