I think that frankly your last line sums this up perfectly When a kid goes for 30 mil to utd <20 for a player who's got potential to go places as well as experience and a winners medal in his pocket is good but most of all he does indeed suit the strategy to the ground
I agree it's a far better problem to have and really we just need to balance it out and have good depth but not deadwood I feel one striker is key, sure if like a keeper but I don't see it happening but I'd also say we are young and also need to see that markovic, Moreno, manquillo, can and origi are all 20 By the time they are all 23 I'd hope two will be top top players but we must accept one min will not work It'll be interesting to see what we do for sure.... I think we all need a markovic huge impact to just push us on and have everyone saying luis who?
It's amusing though (and somewhat typical). The positions we said we needed when we started the summer: Striker and full backs. These are the very last positions to be filled. OK... we got Lambert and Borini came back... but then we lost Suarez and Aspas- so numerically still in same position of down one striker. (and Borini hopefully will leave)
But we are looking to get real quality. We needed extra depth, energy, creativity and muscle in midfield to. So that we can rotate, cope with injuries, make the right substitutions etc. We'v done that with Can and Lallana. Rodgers has wanted another winger for ages. Markovic.
I hope we get quality striker... you cannot put a price on goals and pressure on teams. I feel skertl and lovern might partner excellently as might Henderson and Can so if we've a quality partnership up fornt that'll make a huge difference
To be fair, I think Moreno was always their #1 target and looks like they've got a good deal by being patient. I didn't think we'd get a RB unless we shifted Johnson so that was a bonus as far as I'm concerned! A striker, well we all know the score there. Still think that we could lose Lucas and add another defensive type midfielder.
Even if we get a 2nd calibre striker like Bony/Benteke etc. I really believe we're stronger this year than last year - and I'm talking starting 11. Add to that our bench will be a lot stronger I'm feeling very optimistic at this stage... Luis who???
A little sad that Kelly looks to be going to Palace for £1.5 mill. Really thought at one point he would kick on but the injuries seem to have taken something out of his game. I think its the right move but Palace might have a steal there. All the best Kelly
Obviously, it's just gut feel at present until we see how the team settle into this new season and just how far the new players actually meet their potential, but I am starting to think that BR may have got us into the position that Kenny wanted to achieve. We have quality cover all over the pitch, it is possible for us to change the whole shape of games both before and during a game. To top that we appear to have a will to keep playing exciting and penetrative football. If we get even close to what I think we may be possible of then we are going to have a very enthralling season.
Apart fom a striker. But yes I totally agree with you. And its not just depth in positions. Its depth in terms of energy, creativity, muscle, defensive, offensive, pace. We have it covered. I did not list goals but that should change before the window shuts. The squad is also more versatile.
I'd have expected more than that for him. From Liverpool's perspective, it seems a pointless move to me. He wasn't be on high wages and the £1.5m isn't going to do much either. May as well kept him. In Kelly's perspective it's a good move. He needs to be playing regularly and is perhaps a little old to be just loaned out now. A fresh challenge could do him good. I wish him all the best
Maybe BR sat with him and said, we've got a bid from Palace, I can't promise you first team football regularly, you'd be 3rd choice behind Flanno, Mankiller & possibly Johnson, I'm happy to keep you but if you want to go we'll accept it. No point in keeping him if he wasn't going to play and Wisdom was ahead of him as well for next season. £1.5m now is better than kepe paying him £30k a week in wages to feel up the reserves.
As we have been linked with Eto'o which seems daft to me. If you had the choice between him and Connor Wickham who would you pick
[QUOTEWhy make that choice!]
I am assuming there is no other so we have to decide or do without an extra striker as they are both available
Purely due to age - IF I HAD TO PICK, i'd go with Wickham. To be fair he looked decent towards the end of last season when he got his chance. Could be one for the future.
I am assuming there is no other so we have to decide or do without an extra striker as they are both available
Are we getting both on a free or having to pay the £8m fee for Wickham? C'mon, need more details about the transfers. Same length of contract etc as well? Wages?
