The problem (as always) with women's football is the mishandling within the media. It's on the BBC RED BUTTON, not even a proper channel! Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it on ITV2/3 last time around?

The TV papers seem to have neglected the event in favour of the Apprentice, not a spare inch for anything else.

The sport cannot be directly compared to men's football, never can, it's just simple biology that it will never be as fast or tough but as the most popular participation sport amongst girls there needs to be a bigger push to make it a popular spectators sport.

With proper advertising and a few more puff peices in papers, in time I feel women's football (the newly formed super league) has the potential to be as popular as League 2, the problem is the general lack of cross promotion between men's and women's football.

At SJP is there any posters or ANYTHING that reminds us NUFC also have a women's side? Even a mention at half time of the next fixture, not so hard.

There's no money in the game for any real advancement but until interest is generated it's just going to plod on as a non-league oddity.

Since women's football cannot compete with men's in technical terms, it simply HAS to cash in on the glamour aspect, 'girl power' and all that. If from that people actually take an interest in the sport then great, there's really nothing to lose.

Womens PL is on ESPN but without NUFC or SAFC due to the limited amount of teams and funding

Didn't know that... AND THAT'S WHAT I MEAN!!! There's no fanfare at all surrounding the Women's league kicking off and the average Joe (including myself here) who doesn't have fancy extra channels hasn't a clue what's going on!

That seems pretty unfair, Sunderland have a pretty decent team! Finished 5th 2009/10 and won the least this season, seem like certs to go up in two years time when promotion/relegation is introduced.

Since there's such a big upheaval going on I'd have thought it'd be a perfect opportunity to unite the British leagues. The current top leagues remain the country's national league but then the top clubs from each country compete in the super league.

Top 7 from England, top 3 from Scotland, top 2 from Wales = league of 11

eg. British Women's Super League 2011

    Arsenal
    Blackburn
    Caernarfon
    Chelsea
    Doncaster
    Everton
    Forfar
    Glasgow City
    Hibernian
    Leeds
    Sunderland
    Swansea

Relegation/promotion is based on representation, so if no Welsh team were relegated, no Welsh team would be promoted. Likewise, if two Welsh teams were relegated, two Welsh teams would be promoted. 2 up, 2 down.

The national leagues would still be considered the 'top flight' in each country, just with the possibility of promotion to the British league.

This would also have been a decent 'trial run' for the likes of the Old Firm saying they could practically compete in England.

The downfall for nufc ladies is they get no money at all from the men's side. Where as the likes of Arsenal it's all ran together, big pot of money to pay the boys and the girls.

I'm sure they play at Darsley Park with tickets costing a princely £1! a bit of advertisment by Fatmash could do them wonders.

I may be wrong on this one but I'm sure after WWII, the FA banned the women's game as they were so good they were scared that people would rather watch that over ther men's game. Would have been interesting if the 2 had been left progress at the same rate.

    It was banned 1921-1971! <yikes>

I remember when Charlton went down and they decided to save money they'd scrap their highly-successful women's side, absolute disgrace.

Much like the reserves and the academy are all a part of a club, I think the women's side should be too. You find it at lower-league level so why not with the likes of NUFC? Surely it doesn't cost THAT much to run a few ladies teams.
