He still has family down here from his Reading days, who knows the reasons though. But we're all so sure because the guy who confirmed it is close to the coaching staff at St Mary's, he's never, ever, ever been wrong about anything. But I'll be honest, we're all incredibly underwhelmed down here! Hope he does the business....
It sounds pretty unlikely and certainly wouldn't be £10 mill but before the comments from the Southampton site were posted above, I just had a thought that if there was anything in it at all, it might be that his wife wasn't happy. If I remember rightly, wasn't there some spat on twitter when it was first suggested that he might be coming to us and she'd said something along the lines that she wouldn't be agreeable to it? I've always really rated him and was excited about him coming but he hasn't really set the world alight whilst he's been here, although I was hoping that he'd be better now having had a full pre-season with the rest of the lads. Still hope there isn't anything in it, as I wouldn't like to see him go and we'd have to start looking for a replacement and I can't think of too many decent available options in that sort of price range.
It wont happen, not that it would be a disaster if we did sell him, just that he's been with us for half a season, has european football to look forward to and has settled very well with the group of players we have.
From what I've read of hers it seems all her best mates live in the Midlands so I don't think it will be her, they were also worried about taking their daughter out of the nursery/school she was in so can't see them looking to move her again so soon.
Saying that, if we can sell him for £10m and Bruce has someone even better to bring in, so be it.. I still think its bollocks..
What do you guys think of him anyway? Has he been decent for you? I think a lot of us look at his goal scoring stats and he didn't exactly 'rip it'' up!
I like him. Quick, clever, a bit sneaky. We instantly improved when he signed, and he and Jelavic hit it off from the start. It'd be a shame if he went, so soon, and after being such a big signing for us. But if the circumstances are true, and the offer is £10m, I don't doubt he'll go.
He is decent but he isnt going to go to you. Its just not going to happen. There is no way we are going to sell our number 1 striker who has been here 6 months just days before the season starts when we have the added Europa League games this season.
Screw a couple more million out of them and we have a deal! It's not like they don't have it. £6-£8m for Deeney or Ings...then we've got enough left over to get another good midfielder in. Keeps the British feel going
Him moving to Southampton seems to have legs. Twitter and sources like Skysports. It seems like a strange move for Southampton to even attempt to sign a player that has only been here 6 months. If it is true about his family not settling and wanting to move down south (family being solely his wife) then there isn't much you can do about it. Hope he doesn't go because I rate him and we have only just signed him. Good thing is that we are in a strong position. We don't want to sell, we don't have to sell and we know the club that wants him have a **** load of money and have commanded ridiculous prices for their own players. If they want him, then they will have pay a lot for him because we won't take a loss. If he does go then I think Deeney is a shoe in. If u was Southampton I would be trying to sign him over Long.
I was under the impression that Shane came to City to be with the Irish lads and bessy mates. Quinny, Macca, Brady and Meyler..Shame if he went so soon. Scott Sinclair as a replacement or how about a cheeky bid for Joel Campbell?
This is laughable. If his "Family" (wife) can't settle with the move from West Bromwich to Hull, then she is hardly likely to want to go to Southampton which is almost exactly the same distance, but significantly further from Tipperary, where the rest of his family is from.
