    nice interview here:

    http://www.theguardian.com/football...fail-swansea-city-interview#start-of-comments

another new dawn for the Swans and with all the comings and goings Monk looks like hes trying to shape the team how he wants it (or is it Jenks!) - it could be a masterstroke or balls up but noone really knows how its going to pan out. imo the man comes across as honest and down to earth (some on here may disagree though!), lets hope he can deliver but im confident he will give it his all whatever happens

No question about his commitment. We are always gonna get 110%. Thankfully no talk about the formation to set the wolves off. Just wanna get started now and see what happens.

    Interesting choice of words there,exiled.

"But no-one really knows how it's going to pan out".

Yet, there are many on here who categorically insisted that Laudrup would have ensured relegation had he not been dismissed.

So it would appear that there ARE people who frequent this forum who possess the powers necessary to "really knew how things were going to pan out". <cheers>

Jesus Christ Vetch, have got to mention Laudrup in every single post? This thread is about Monk's interview for crying out loud.

Very honest interview from Monk. One thing for sure, if he fails, it won't be through a lack of trying. Succeed and he could be our manager for many years, finally bringing some stability to the managerial seat.

I read that last night and thought. "That's playing to the Monk admirers."
While I want success and hope Monk can supply it, little, including that interview, gives me great hope; more hot air about the Swansea Way and how far we've come.
The only Swansea Way I've seen is a return to the tactics of Kenny Jackett, which is pretty much what Monk first experienced in Swansea.
His relationship with the fans has been, is and will be with some, very close; but 'Gary Monk's Black and White Army' lasted until the third minute on Saturday. To be fair the crowd never really got going.
I'm not sure where his head is at the moment either, he sat po-faced almost all the way through the Villarreal game, as if something had affected him even before the game started.
I'm dismissing Manchester on Saturday and the circus that will surround LVG's first league game in charge - just hoping we play better than against Villarreal and that it won't be a cricket score.

For me, our season starts with Burnley.

The exodus is half a first team that must have seen through it.

Plan A ... last Sat .... if it takes him 10 seasons to get it right we'll be playing in the senior league.

So we're going backwards then .I suppose thats as much as we can expect after last on and this close season but it's a pity to lose the momentum we had in stabilising the Club at this level.

given this is our 4th season in the Prem and we've had three years of success 'survival is the aim this season and nothing else.' is a bit of a shocking statement. We've obviously gone backwards somewhere!

Every club from 9th down will be having survival as it's main objective. Get to 40 points and then see how far up we finish.

Firstly, it's Laudrup not Laudrop. Secondly, just because many fans expect failure (in the sense that we'll well and truly struggle this season) that doesn't make them disloyal or 'dimwits'. I'm one of those fans and I'm not alone.

It's nothing to do with Laudrup v Monk and I'd wish people here would stop that crap. It's because I never thought Monk was up to the job and being thrown in the deep end like this is a big ask for an experienced manager let alone a rookie. I don't think that knowing our Club inside out will be enough, and from what I've seen so far I still don't think he's up to it but really hope I'm wrong for the sake of our Club.

Most Swans fans are honest enough to admit when they're wrong and if Gary progresses Swansea City this season I'll join them in doing so. I'd be absolutely delighted with a top 10 finish and will be at every home game and a few away games backing the team and the Manager 100%.

Given how well we've done in the PL until now - we should be setting our bar a lot higher than survival ! Of course we want to survive, but we should be aiming to break into the top 10 from now on.

But can you tell me what is wrong with wanting our Club to progress rather than go backwards? I agree that survival is number one but assuming we do wouldn't you be disappointed with 17th? I know I would.

We've achieved so much under Rodgers and Laudrup and there's nothing wrong with wanting that to be maintained if not bettered.

Well I'm going for a top 10 finish, you can go for the dog fight the other end if you want, but Monk is not thinking of survival, that's for losers!............<ok>

Why are you "going for a top 10 finish"? I'm willing to listen to reasoned debate rather than blind optimism. Do we have a stronger squad or weaker? Do we have a better manager or weaker? I'm not saying you're wrong. In fact I hope you're right. <ok>

I can understand the argument that we'll struggle based on Monk's inexperience and other factors but I don't see the other side of it. Unfortunately like many fans I'm pessimistic about the coming season. :(
