He's handed in a transfer request at Sporting Lisbon and he wants to join us, he must've impressed the manager when the Netherlands played Argentina at the world cup.

I have seen the transfer request part, but nothing anywhere where is quoted as saying he wants to join Man United.
Just that he wants to leave Lisbon and reportedly Southampton, Arsenal and United are interested.

Sky are reporting that he wants to join United. They don't make that **** up so someone close to the player is using the media to help push through a transfer. It's a ****er's way of doing business but then every agent I've met has been a ****er.

Or is talking **** to either a) Get the player a bigger contract at his current club or b) Hoping to start a bidding war and drive his price up, therefore increasing the signing on and agents fees.

How would that start a bidding war? If the player has let it be known that he wants to go to a certain club then that hardly encourages other clubs to get involved!

Why name a preferred club if the end goal is a bidding war? Doesn't make sense.

Those factors aren't necessarily linked in a positive manner. If anything it's often the other way around - the cheaper the move for the selling club in terms of the transfer fee, the more money the player can get in wages. Look at Campbell when he went to Arsenal - he doubled the previous record wage in the PL by getting a free transfer. Agents fees and wages are negotiated independently from the transfer fee.

You may be right about the higher wages tho - the report says he won't trade with his club "until the situation is resolved to his satisfaction". Could be a euphemism for give me more money or let me leave. But then specifying he wants to join Utd makes it harder for him to achieve that as it can burn bridges by implying he's already decided to leave - would have been better for him just to request a transfer to any club if his aim is to get higher wages.

Not at all HRH, seems rather petulant. If he does want away, then do it in a professional manner, not by acting as a spoilt child.

He'll play for United for a couple of seasons before declaring that it was always his dream to play for Barca/Real and goes on strike til he gets his transfer.

He'll be lucky. From what I saw of him, he didn't look that great to be fair. Average defender, in an international team with a pretty average defence. Yeah that defence made the final - but to be fair it was they're attack that got them there, more so than their defence.

For me Demichelis and Zabaleta are the 2 defenders that shone for Argentina. Rojo just made up the numbers <ok>

Sporting president Bruno Carvalho confirms Marcos Rojo will be disciplined for missing training, no mention of Man United.
