We are best known as a Club for our footballing style that embraces passing, possession and building from that. That is our hallmark. The passing statistics in FourFourTwo Stats Zone represent a measure of how well we play our brand of football. Other stats are not as well correlated to quality of performance in terms of who we are as a club and what we are rated for. As such, since the data I have used is from an independent source and all matches have been treated equally it is as objective a measure as you're likely to find. In other words, there is no bias in the results from myself. I have not cherry picked the games, I have not deselected values in the data set to impose any bias. It's Laudrup's work versus Monk's work, unvarnished. So keep weaseling. It's entertaining.
That's your opinion. And as we all know opinions are subjective. I also notice that you only started qualifying your subjective opinion of what a quality performance is with " in terms of who we are as a club" late in the thread. Makes it easier to justify your cherry picking.
This Laudrup Monk thing is getting ridiculous now. Rightly or wrongly, Michael Laudrup has gone. We seriously need to move on & the continuous bringing up of stats, well under Laudrup it was this, but under Monk it's that!! What does it all achieve, apart from a divided support. Time will tell if Monk is good enough, hopefully the board will act accordingly in good time, if we are going down the Swanny (no pun)!! I'm not really interested in what the players' are saying too, they will look after themselves first (human nature), club second, probably totally opposite to a lot of fans. They will come & go too, we always remain to help pick up the pieces!! Without fans', there is no club!! To say it doesn't matter what we say, is not doing ourselves any justice...
To be honest, think really too much is made over the apparent 'loss' of the likes of Canas, Pozuelo, Michu et al. None of them really played to a level that really affected our last season for the better. Davies, well it's a loss, but I have plenty of trust in Taylor. People seem to forget, how devesated most of us were when he experienced that awful injury. That's how good a player he was for us. I reckon we won't actually miss him (Ben) & I was a Ben fan!! We might miss the cover it allowed by having the two. I like Amat too, so Chico going might be the next step in his progression. Pablo, well bit dissapointed in him, but there you go!! JDG, good player, but still can't get that 'limp' tackle attempt against Arsenal at home, that helped to lose us the match...
It might not to those involved but I would put the way in which the sacking was handled and the secrecy/payments fiasco is the main reason why we are still debating the Monk v Laudrup scenario. Also roof, who turned us down this summer?
Better to be arguing over a football related matter than slaughtering each other all the time with personal insults
The point of this thread is to objectively compare performance - we replaced one manager with another - statistics were provided by the thread's author. I have provided another set of statistics. Then there's debate - the purpose of a forum. One group of people seem to have a visceral hatred for anything to do with Laudrup to the point of being delusional even when confronted with real numbers that starkly reflect the difference between the two managers and the performance of the club while they were in charge. It's become so bad that on another thread Terror posted an extract from a post of a so called Swans fan somewhere that wanted the League Cup expunged from our record and the Club's trophy cabinet. The disparagement of Laudrup, the manner in which he was removed, the abuse and disrespect hurled at Chico on another thread (as a further example) is anathema to what I believe the Club should stand for in terms of values and principles .... and surely the dignity and integrity of us as supporters ... otherwise where's the honor and pride in being part of that group. We can't tell what might have happened if the managerial change had not taken place, but we do know what has happened. This is written in the numbers and for those not scared to look paints a picture that is discouraging at best. A lot has been done under the shady umbrella of the "best interest of the Club" over the past year. There are just some of us that see past that canard and are not happy with what has transpired, nor optimistic at the short term future. We have seen a squad dissolve and quality players not being moved and replaced with better as part of a coherent strategy, but actually wanting out and leaving and the Club still scrambling to cover. We are going into this season probably as poorly prepared and depleted a squad as any of our other Prem seasons.
Oh, it's a Laudrup v Monk 'debate'. Can't have enough of these imo even though we rarely touch on this subject. Really hasn't been discussed enough on this forum. :/
Trouble is, the 'football related matter' inevitably descends into slaughtering!! I hardly visit this board like what I used to, it's constantly full of Monk v Laudrup bickering. So Urmmmm Swanselona, that's what a forum's for then...
That can be a problem, of which I hold my hands up as I have gotten involved myself. As for the bickering, my involvement is that I don't like seeing people sweep what ML did under the rug, or belittle what he achieved just because some fail to look at the circumstances surrounding his tenure. Such as the Europa League added fixtures. Yeah they are cool aren't they
Well firstly, no one likes a football debate more than me & with a bit of 'passionate banter' thrown in to, even better!!! It's the devisiveness that I think a lot of fans' can't be doing with, serves no purpose. I was gutted for Laudrup when they sacked him, for a once legend footballer to have his link with us broken that way was dissapointing!! I admit though, I held no grudge against the board, as I feel it was for the best!! It's just a shame it had to happen that way... I'm behind Monk, maybe 2.45ish Saturday might seem a bit diffucult too!! After-all if we fail to hammer Manure, he needs to go yeh??!!!
Well, not by my reckoning but wasn't it Huw Jenkins who said he expects us to get points from these type of fixtures?
You're correct it doesn't. But I'm not talking about defending Monk. I'm talking about the abuse targeted at Laudrup and more recently Chico or anybody that Laudrup is perceived to be connected with. Browse through the commentary over the last several months and tell me how you would label it.
But the inevitable result will be yet another ****fest. Sorry, but it's true. I doubt many will comment on anything other than Monk v Laudrup. Knock yourself and prove me wrong by debating Jackett v Flynn.
Why would I want to prove you right or wrong? As stated the op was about our managers over the last 11years. The op came about as a result of a comment about Sousa, a manager much maligned on here and elsewhere, who is often thought of as the draw king. If I wanted to show anything it was his record outside the PL has been incredible. if people want to turn it into a Laudrup v Monk discussion that's the nature of open forums.
