The long ball tag is of course rubbish. There were a number of short quick passes out of our area before the ball was chipped over their defence for Deeney to run on to. A real long ball game would have had a healthy hoof from the penalty spot that could have gone anywhere. Maybe Aidy could make a short video for YouTube to show the merits of this approach for the badly informed. :emoticon-0100-smile

Watford will always win by using the long ball game, their sloping field and two new reasons cheating the rules and diving. Skilled play and understanding the transfer rules properly does not enter the argument. Then a match is two halfs and both teams get to kick on the slope and mqny of our opponents have a Tom "Knockaert" Daley in their team.

Often it depends on who the player/team is with regarding to the long pass/long ball debate.

I thought Angella's chip was a delicate pass whilst Tozser played a ball into space for Vydra to run on.

    All very good football.

A long ball to me is when you wack it high aiming for somebody's head and try to win the knock downs.

Sometimes that has to be done - just you need the players suited to such a style.

How ironic that that goal is being lauded by that Hush-Puppy wearing, kerb crawling pervert Pleat after the abuse he gave us and GT in particular.

His first yellow was very harsh, but you can never condone placing a hand on the referee!

A pretty fair summing up I believe.

    http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...gs_we_learned_from_Watford_s_win_over_Bolton/

    One paragraph stands out.

"When I asked one highly-respected broadcaster for his views on the game so far at half-time, the first thing he said was: "Watford have to keep Troy Deeney". It is a view that may well be shared by the Pozzos and the club's hierarchy." With renewed speculation about his future, maybe it is time for Watford to put up the not for sale sign this season.

When he scored you could hear loads of people saying "I kind of wish he hadn't done that" <laugh>. You should never wish away the summer but i suspect we're all looking forward to the window slamming closed

OFH - you have to remember that with our owners there is always a price.
Just a question if the suitors will go up to it.

Yes Chris, but also there's always a prize. How much would promotion be worth? ;)

That is a fair argument, and one that is always raised. But in effect that is also taking a punt which is ultimately not good business sense.

So the scenario could be, for example, we gat a £10M offer but decide that promotion is worth £100M so you don't sell. Then if you are not promoted you have lost £10M on a punt. I don't think any savvy owner would ignore the value of player trading on the basis that we might get more if we go up.

I think for a club with a turnover of around £15M (I seem to remember we were £11-£12M each year when public), which has always been loss making except for player trading, then I think if we get offers for any player that appear good business we have to accept those players will be sold.

The difference now is that under Bassini, or even before that, we may have buckled earlier at a lower valuation, whereas the Pozzo's seem to be much less willing to do that. I still suspect Troy will be gone by 1st September, although I would love to see him stay, but if he does go it will be at a price that is good for the business.

£650K (from memory with all the add ons etc) seems a good price now, especially as it was the proceeds from the EJ concert that bought him. I remember at the time some murmurings about the 'waste of money'.

That's the business decision the Pozzos will be making now. There is always a price but they want promotion this season, the money in would need to be enough to enable them to balance the increased risk of not making the top two, also add in we do not know if there is a young South American, Far Eastern, Australasian or whatever star in the making on the scouts target list with Watford as their destination. We must be close to the home grown lower limit on matchdays though and we need high quality British players to meet the rules.

Can anyone remember details of the sell-on clause? Walsall must be rubbing their hands in anticipation...
