I've had a feling that somethig isn't quite right about his injury......

    http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-art...-cheick-tiote-leave-arsenal-interest-reports/

There are now widespread reports that Cheick Tiote would welcome a move and that Newcastle United wouldn’t ‘stand in his way’ if an acceptable offer came in.

Guesstimates of that acceptable offer range between £8m and £12m, for a player who still has three years left on his contract and would be 31 by the time it came to an end, if he reaches that point…

While a number of Russian clubs are also being mentioned, Arsenal are the club that are most strongly linked, with regular reports in the past of Arsene Wenger’s rating of Tiote.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of supposed midfield targets as they look to build further on an enterprising transfer window so far.

Cheick Tiote was said to be less than impressed with the sale of Yohan Cabaye, their partnership a match for any in the Premier League when fully firing.

Selling high wage earners who are getting on in years (in Mike Ashley terms) and replacing them with cheaper (free in Jack Colback’s case) younger models, is regarded as the ideal model for Ashley.

Alan Pardew has stated that Cheick Tiote is injured but there has still been no explanation of the lack of involvement by Tiote in pre-season.

The midfielder was due to meet the squad in New Zealand but that never happened, then after an hour against Sheffield Wednesday Tiote traveled to Germany but was an unused sub against Malaga and then not even on the bench against Schalke.

Exactly at what point he picked up this injury is guesswork but the lack of involvement otherwise, does make you wonder if Newcastle United are lining him up for an exit.

The purchases of Forest pair Lascelles and Darlow have seen expenditure go beyond the money brought in by Debuchy and Cabaye, so a Tiote sale would more than balance the books.

If Cheick leaves, the optimists amongst us will hope that the money would be used to bring in the striker or central defender the team desperately needs.

The odds are the reality would be somewhat different.

While not implausible, there is absolutely zero in the way of substantiation for anything in that article.

Tiote is out with a possibly genuine, possibly not injury and MA likes money. Everything else is pub level speculation.

I agree with this. While absolutely anything is possible at NUFC. It does appear that they've taken 2 + 2 and got 5. Not the first time either.

Who knows. I wouldn't be surprised as he is reaching the end of his sale life. Saying that, Ashley showed with Coloccini that he was willing to sanction exceptions to the rule.

I would be unhappy with it as he can be an absolute beast on his day and provides a solidity to a midfield which is seeing a lot of upheaval. However, midfield is an area we have many 'first team' players for (Gouff-Sissohko-Anita-Colback-De Jong-Cabella-Obertan-Gutierrez-Ben Arfa backed up by Vuckic, Bigi, ect.) so I can see it being sanctioned. We need defenders more than we need Tiote but I have it isn't an either/or.

This would be devestating. We are already woefully short on 'power', we lose him we have pretty much no-one who can stick a foot in, something that somehow Pardew appears absolutely oblivious to? Our back four are lightweight and can easily be bullied, our midfield is already missing a DM for when Tiote gets suspended or heads off to the ACN and we have no-one up front to bully the opposition. We're currently a bit flimsy and I don't know a team who survive in the PL without a spine. Very worrying news this, coupled with the fact he's already out for at least two weeks anyway makes me wonder if he's actually just had enough and the injury is a bit of a 'story'.

For all the good we've done in the window, I can see us being pushovers and with the majority of our new boys being flair-types - not leaders - then I can foresee more problems. The fans imaginations have been captured but when Ginola, for example, was playing at his peak we had Batty, Lee, Clark, Bez, Peacock etc., players who can stick a head in or a foot in, who can then mix it up a bit.

Now we have Colo, Santon, Anita, Sissoko, De Jong. Not being funny but most teams with the flair have aggression as well. And I'm not just talking about the top teams, I'm talking about the likes of Everton, Swansea, Stoke.

He's a liability. Gets caught on the ball far too often for a defensive midfielder and makes far too many rash 'tackles'.

I hope not, the forum won't be the same without the resident ray of sunshine.

Somehow I don't expect it will be as easy to offload Mr as it is to offload Cheick

If you've been reduced to that level in seeking affirmation, it would be cruel to disillusion you

This season should see Cattermole become a record breaker in the all time caution league....

I wouldn't worry about that link, Pulp. They're notorious for being wrong.
