Additionally, I think this thread has run it's course - I vote that we close it down, any more is like picking on a scab.

 

I'm reading this late. I generally agree with the others and have some sympathy with Wubba's post too.

Our criticism of Flyer's apparently constant negativity obviously had a debilitating effect on the guy. I am disappointed that he's gone, but a little surprised he put up with some of the reactions for as long as he did. As others have said, he should be commended for not giving back in kind on many an occasion.

But at the end of the day his going is his prerogative and I respect him for that. As Stan has said, it is to Flyer's credit that he just went without fanfare. Whilst he will be missed by some I have little doubt that should he return the usual suspects will be at him again.

Perhaps he'll come back in a new guise.

 

Roller you were on a hiding to nothing there. It was not an option to do nothing, you made a decision and I don't think anyone can criticise you for that.
As for Flyer, I detect a theme running through this thread that many feel he was driven away by lots of nasty posters, a little hash in my opinion.

 

Sound judgement in the way you dealt with this, Roller, and I'd say you were right to inform board members. Flyer was a significant contributor (that's not to say I always agreed with him) and questions would have continued to be asked until answers came forward.

Anyone who knows Swords is aware that when he threatens to kill you, it's hyperbole and he's off on his next post within minutes having forgotten the first. I suspect Flyer knew that, but if there was a continual spat between the two, this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Flyer, if you're out there, mate, I really hope you come back. We need your good football sense and contentious views to temper any unbridled optimism here, particularly if we start the season well...

 

Agree with the way Roller has dealt with this. Disagree with Flyer's stance. Don't like Swords constant antagonistic baiting of everyone and every thing. Fed up with threads about individuals and not football. Can't really be arsed with the forum anymore. For what it's worth I generally disagree with most things Flyer says largely due to the way he portrays his opinion as fact, opinions I find to be quite suspect. That said he is a character and I can't decide if the board is a better place without him or not (I think probably not).

 

For me there was no need to explain as you have my full backing and I trust your Judgement, the two of you do a fine job with some difficult people on here.

 

I am an occasional poster. I had a run in with Swords about a year ago and he found out my IP / location and started getting personal and I dropped off the site. I do think the threat to kill someone on a site is kinda scary. I understand that for those of you who are regulars - that you like the childish banter - but I respect Flyer to stepping off. I used to be on the BBC site much more than this and dropped off sue to all the childish ****e. I think threats should get a significant response. I don;t think you Mods should step off - you do a good job- I can tolerate negativity much more than threats.

 

To be honest I cant say I miss either of them!

 

If Flyer comes back I'll put "Flyer is always right" in my signature. (he has to cite this post though)

It was our first friendly and within minutes of starting, Flyer was already saying we were a shambles (page one of link below) so at the top of page two I wrote "If I have to stand another season of Flyer I will track him down and kill the cu*t". Obviously a stupid thing to say because it could easily be taken literally even though, to be honest, at the time I didn't think he'd even see it because he had me on Ignore but Frome and Jeff responded to it further down the page (posts 28 & 30) so Flyer then seen it. (Their posts have since edited out my comment too).

Within the context of a matchday thread and its fast flowing nature as people will know, things get posted in a manner that perhaps wouldn't be said on more sedate threads during the week because when you're watching a match unfolding - like we all were who were commenting on that thread at the same time - its kind of like a pub or terrace situation where you're in football-watching mode and stupid banter etc is exchanged. I'm not excusing the comment I made because as it turned out, the guy took it at face value and was not at all impressed. Even though I genuinely meant it as a joke it was nevertheless a crude and intimidatory thing to say when you subsequently realise that things written in black and white naturally are often interpreted literally, especially when I didn't put a smiley face or summat at the end of it.

Betty, tell Flyer that if he comes back on I'll stay away until, say Christmas, and when I come back I won't respond to any of his posts. I feel bad about him leaving the Site because of me and its not right. There's a decent bloke that's left a Site that he posted on daily because of my ignorance and I feel like sh*t over it. Flyer's part of the furniture around here and we need him back.

Apologies wear thin when they're repeated for the umpteenth time but while I'm at it, I'd just like to say that what happened with COL was a disgrace and it was 100% my fault. It was basically online thuggery and I never thought I'd fall to that level. COL was just reacting to a load of sh*t coming his way and he was extremely unlucky to receive a ban. I fear that we may have seen the last of him as a result because I think he'll be affronted at getting banned from this Site.

COL, if you're reading this, I'm sorry mate.



(BTW, thanks to Roller for stepping in and giving the true Flyer story because the Lynch-mob were out on the other thread and were gathering a head of steam)

As for the IP address thing. Are you for real? I can just about log onto the internet never mind go searching for IP addresses. I don't even know what a bloody IP address is FFS. I don't know why you'd make up something like that but I can only think you thought it'd be a great laugh to cook something juicy up on someone who was unable to respond (being banned).

Flyer has contacted me via text and said he won't be returning and i now respect that ... I tended to agree a lot with Flyer on his current views on the club and was pleased to hear and I am sure he won't mind me telling you he is in fact pleased with the new signings

Swords is a fine lady and like us all takes on a character on here ... I believe the secret is to understand that it's just entertainment people and I have always said you must be able to take it all with a pinch of salt or in Sword's case a large puff of lady talc. Not only could he not get out of his transgender Irish love nest he would require a lot of time deciding what to wear to go hunting for men

I hope Flyer comes back and I am sure he will in his own time ... QPR and the story this season could be too much for anyone to stay away
