I am not too worried who really has the band.....except that it usually means they play when they are available. Verm was a bit of an exception. Now I am fearing we will not get in a DMF - at least not of high calibre. I highly doubt we would sign Khedira and then put him on the bench?
Dumb comment. We made City look the way we did because we played them off the park in the first half. It wasn't down to them 'strolling around and looking uninterested' As for the spuds who were making the 'city's reserves' comments, City don't have reserves, they have a billion quid squad where practically every player would walk into the spuds team.
Yes, City were off the pace, but we still had to perform, end of f**ing story. If you look at the 3 goals we scored, each one was quality, not down to City just not giving a f**, but because our plays and movements for the first 2 goals were brilliant, and then the third goal speaks for itself. Anyways, 50 years from now nobody is going to remember or talk about the performance, all that will be remembered and enshrined is the following: COMMUNITY SHIELD CHAMPIONS 2014, ARSENAL FC....Just another honour-trophy for our large trophy cabinet, thank you very much. *bows*
The anthem is sung, the players wear suits, and the BBC referred to as the players making their competitive debuts, therefore implying that it's a proper game. It's a trophy, not a particularly important one, but still a trophy all the same, and maybe it'll help instill that 'winning mentality' that people have been banging on about for the last 8 years, although funnily enough that's not brought up so much these days.
Spuds are only jealous as they can't remember being in the Community Shield or the Charity Shield as it was known. It's not likely they will be in it for a considerable while either as they aren't due a FA Cup win till 2021 or 2031
It was a top performance and good to see us on track for the new season. We will only get better once we have 3 of our best first teamers back and our new boys Sanchez etc have some bedding in time. All we needed as a team was to taste victory so we could take it to the next level and with back to back victories, I can see us finally showing the potential that Wenger's been building for. Really looking forward to the new season now!
To a degree you are right. Only because it will have meant that we were FA Cup or League winners. The actual game - couldn't care less, just a friendly. Winners last year were Man Utd, do you think they consider it a good season?
I said a few times you played well - I can quote them all if you want? But, as BT Sport highlighted on several occasions, there were so many times (in the first half) where City just didn't look up for it. Ramsay's goal for example - he was deep in your half making the initial pass. At that point he was alongside Fernando and Toure. When he popped up to score later they were both 30 yards behind him and it isn't like he had to sprint to get away from them. That will not happen at the Emirates or Etihad in my opinion.
That was exactly how we played in the thrashings at Liverpool and Chelsea, you don't get comfortable wins against the big boys otherwise
I'd say that goal was more down to the quick thinking of Wilshere to get the ball out to Sanchez, his lightening pace and vision to find Sanogo and then the deft flick from Ramsey to set himself up for a brilliant finish. Quality play from Arsenal, and I'm certain you'll see more of that this season
man u were playing a championship side, how often does that happen. When the one of the teams are not even in the top division, even as **** as man u were, they were never going to lose that game.
Does anyone have definitive video evidence of whether Giroud's goal was deflected or not? I didn't think so at the time but people keep saying that it was.
well i have just watched it several times , with my media player i can frame advance and it looks very much like it would have gone right of the goal had it not hit the city players shin and changed direction. http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2014/8/10/5988121/olivier-giroud-goal-video-arsenal-man-city
