Project manager (started just before coming up for the Sunderland match!) for an engineering company near York. Qualified Civil Engineer but found the design office a little boring and after 5 years I had done everything there was.

My worst job was working in a care home while I was at Uni. It wasn't the caring that bothered me but my colleagues....... Bitchy as hell ha!

    I work for Sky sales.

Its the best job I have ever had. The pay is the best of any company like this and I rake in the commision. Also get all my Sky free and get to watch Sky all day at work. Might not be everybodys cup of tea but I have a laugh

I love the buzz of sales. From time to time I have to step in and help the team achieve their targets, some of them are useless, and I love the feeling of closing a sale. Tempted to go into it properly and leave the world of Engineering behind (I'd probably make more money too <laugh>)

I ****ing love sales me, always have.

Not many jobs give you a) the bucks and b) the constant opportunity for a little high in your working day.

People sometimes look down on sales jobs and I, and anyone who's ever been good at sales, laugh at that.

My first ever job was door knocking for Powergen just after they made energy an open market, it set me up for everything I have now, fond, fond memories.

Absolutely. It is a different environment to where I normally am and I love being around the sales guys. I tried moving over to the sales department but they wouldn't take me as my position is too hard to fill supposedly <grr>

I used to work in sales. They thought I was really good at it until they realised I was really not good at it.

    I used to miss-sell. A lot.

I got sacked for being bad for the image of the company.

Served my time as an Electrician.
Now working as a Maintenance Manager for a private healthcare company. On a helluva lot of money less than I was but it's the best job I have ever had. Should see me out to retirement with a bit luck

    Not for everyone mate, agreed.

Some people are born to sell, some can learn, some just won't take to it.

I think a big part of it is having faith in what you are pushing, I'd struggle to sell something I thought was ****, even back in the energy days, at the time, when people were BG & Northern Electric or nowt, you were saving people money on every knock, AND making massive comms.

I left that market when it got to the point it was all bullshit, one move was enough for anyone, then went into cable, which I thought was great at the time for Telewest, then into travel with BA.

With Virgin now, and again, I believe what we sell is the very best, and that's half the battle, I couldn't, despite my admitted hunger for money, see myself taking money from hard working folk for something I thought was ****e.

Fortunately, I've managed to avoid those jobs, and there are many of those about!
